VIDEO 1, VIDEO 2: After speaking to over 250,000 high school Bachurim and girls around the Unites States, Canada and England, noted Mechanech Rabbi Daniel Mechanic made the discovery that many of our children lack the basic answers to some of the most fundamental questions in Yiddishkeit.
The Shiur was delivered this past week at the Tri-Star Bungalow colony, and arranged by Reb Hershel Spitz. (Video submitted to TLS)
It’s a huge problem !
The Gedolim always have said: These “Questions” are not kashes, they are teirutzim.
In this day and age the yetzer horah is not philosophical, its just hefkeirus aka “party”.
We have to instill the love and beauty of torah and shabbos in our childrens lives to combat the empty glitter of the party culture.
very interesting
is there a way i can get a mp3 of the shuir
I’m sure most adults don’t have the answers as well

Those are just words, “the gedloim alway have said they are tirutzim, not kashes”. At the end of the day, please tell me how to instill love for Torah and shabbos into my children. What’s the secret, because it sure seems like this generation can’t do it well. In our community it seems more and more that we are like Mitzrayim at Makas Bechoros, ain bayis she’ain shum mais. And it is in all houses, toradike and less so.
R’ Mechanic has a point. So do you. But your point is not an answer. His point answers your point. We need to explain to our children why we do what we do, not just live the life and expect them to follow. As you said, the party life is easier to run to then Torah.
I keep saying how the kids need to feel the warmth and beauty of yiddishkeit, and not the cold stares and dissaproval when theres an untucked shirt in school.
Lets bring Rabbi Mechanic to speak to our school principals and teachers to help drive this message straight into the hearts of the children who need it so desperately!
Has Rabbi Mechanic been to Lakewood schools? I think this needs to be a curriculum in every school – mandatory. We need to train people with this so that they have the answers which we all should have readily available but we DONT! I will bring this to my kids schools and hope they dont turn down this vital and great concept!
One fundamental thing we have to do is to really feel happiness when we ourselves do the mitzvos, including Shabbos. When the children see how much hana’ah we have, hopefully it will rub off on them. But there is no one solution and as stated above, so many homes, even those with simchas hachaim have children who just don’t get it.
