Harav Shmuel Meir Katz: Do Not Throw Children Up During ‘Moshe Emes’

Renowned Lakewood Posek Harav Shmuel Meir Katz today issued a Psak regarding the practice which some have to throw children up in the air during the ‘Moshe Emes’ of Hakafos.

After receiving reports of several children being injured over the years as a result of this Minhag, Harav Katz today said today that this practice should be discontinued.

Additionally, says Rabbi Katz, if one witnesses others performing this, he should attempt to have it stopped. [TLS]

  1. I don’t understand why we need a posek for this. Are parents that clueless that they need to be told not to do something that can hurt their own child??? Use your yiddeshe saichel and you can be mekayaim the minhag and keep your children safe. When people with no common sense get ahold of a minhag and are machmir to the detriment of their kids…..

  2. I dont think the Rav has time in his busy schedule for giving such petty psaks… next year issue helmets for all children that will be thrown and drink a little less so you don’t permanently brain damage your child.
