Mayor Akerman on 2014 Mayoral Position: We’re Still Undecided

mayor albert akermanWith about two weeks left to the Township Committee Reorganization meeting, Albert Akerman – who served as the 2013 Mayor, tells TLS there’s still no decision as to who will serve as the 2014 Mayor.

“We’re still undecided at this time – discussions are ongoing,” Mayor Akerman tells TLS.

The Mayor will most likely be chosen from the majority party, which is Republican. The two other options are Menashe Miller and Steven Langert. Committeeman Lichtenstein and Ray Coles are Democrats.

The Reorganization meeting will be taking place on Wednesday, January 1, at the municipal Building on Third Street. During the meeting, Mayor Akerman will be sworn in for his second term as Committeeman. [TLS]

  1. Anyone who wants to be the mayor should be fully prepared to put himself on the line to deal with the issue of tent city despite any pressure from the media and other outside groups. It is tempting to take the easy way out and just let things get caught up in red tape,as often happens in government, but the residents of Lakewwod, especially those in the neighborhoods impacted by tent city will not give the mayor a pass. Mayor Ackerman has really gone the extra mile putting himself on the line to do all in his power to deal with the situation. Anyone who will not do the same as mayor will have to deal with hundreds of Lakewood residents who will be very vocal about the issue. We hope and trust that anyone considering the position is ready to step up to the plate.

  2. I was driving last night down cedarbridge , there was a number of cars traveling on the road and as we approached TENT CITY out of the dark a couple came walking stright into the traffic . they did not bother looking to see if there was any cars on the road they walked straight into the roadway miracoulosly they were not hit or even killed . the cars many of them made short stops some try to swerve around them. it was really scary i thought it will end in tradgedy.

  3. Aisik has to be given the opportunity to finish up the good work that he has started. Just as Menashe had a second year to work on streetlights, Aisik deserves another year as Mayor to officially close up tent city forever.

  4. There are many people in this town that are capable of doing a great job as Mayor. But given political structure here in Lakewood, there are only the same few ppl going around and around.
This should be an open market and let the ppl decide who should be elected!

  5. Mayor Akerman is doing the most wonderful job regarding the relocation of Tent City, he is being so compassionate to those living there and tending to their needs and concerns in the most humane way over extending himself beyond normal bounderies. At the same time he realizes that for their own safety they need to be relocated to a better place for themselves, a place that will give all the Tent City residents their self dignity back!!

WAY TO GO MAYOR KEEP IT UP ALL THE WAY!!!

THE COUNTY SHOULD LEARN FROM THE COMPASSION AND SYPATHY LAKEWOOD HAS FOR THE RESIDENTS OF TENT CITY.

  6. ‘Mayor Akerman was an excellent mayor!!! Hope he is given chance to continue!! We need him!!’
