Continuing Phone Scam Nets Yet Another Local Victim

scam alertYet another local resident fell prey to the phone scammers, and dished out money out of fear, TLS has learned.

The woman was reportedly home alone when she received a threatening phone call, conning her into wiring money over to the scammers.

Scammers have come across as IRS agents, Microsoft agents and others – many whom have heavy accents. Victims have been threatened with imprisonment and lengthy prison terms for non-payment.

Earlier this month, TLS reported about a Monsey Yungerman who panicked and left his home to make a wire transfer, leaving his wife panicking at home.

  1. I got one from a credit union on my cell phone in the form of a text message telling me there was a problem with my Visa card. I texted back, “Nice try. Forwarded this to prosecutor’s office. You’ll be hearing from them.” They never bothered me again.
Remember: The IRS does not have your phone number and most other places don’t have your number or email address unless you gave it to them. Calls made during business hours, if legit, are made by Americans not people with foreign accents. Use your head and you won’t get scammed. If you’re in doubt, hang up and call the customer service number printed on your credit card. If there is a problem with your account it’ll be noted in their system and they can help you deal with it. Your credit card company knows your account number; they don’t have to ask for it. If the caller asks for it, they’re not legit.

  2. I got the call and realized they are scam artists. I spoke to them for 2 hours they gave me the whole rundown on how they operate and how much they make. I convinced them I wanted to join them and was getting as much info as possible. …

  3. I don’t have 2 precious hrs of my time to give these knuckleheads just hang up the phone & move on. & for all you guys out there don’t be so quick to pay things & you won’t have trouble. Use my system. All bills the first notice goes straight in the trash & them we start talking

  4. It happened to me also, I knew it was a scam and called back the number to see what they will say, they responded ” We Dont Want To Talk To You”. I reported it to IRS Scam line anyway. Just be careful IRS will Never Call regarding Money.
