PHOTOS: Authorities this evening are investigating after a resident who recently returned from Africa was hospitalized with Ebola symptoms, sources confirm to TLS.
The patient, from Neptune, who a source tells TLS returned from Africa within the last month, was hospitalized this evening in Lakewood after vomiting. He also had fever, the source said. Another source told TLS the patient also went partially limp.
A Lakewood Police officer who was in direct contact with the patient was on another unrelated call in Coventry Square when they were informed about the possible Ebola disease, prompting police to shut down an area to ensure he doesn’t come in contact with others, the sources told TLS.
“An officer and EMS officials were in direct contact with the patient,” a source who spoke on condition of anonymity told TLS.
The patient is being tested, and the CDC (Center Disease Control) was called in to investigate.
“We won’t know for another 24-48 hours when we receive the results,” the source said.
In the meantime, all who came in contact with the patient are being watched, though it doesn’t appear they were quarantined yet.
“It’s developing as we speak,” the source said.
Though it’s potentially a real threat, police ask the public to remain calm.
“We ask the public to be patient with law enforcement until we can establish if there is a real threat,” a law enforcement source told TLS.
UPDATE 8 AM: Police have not yet released any official information.
Haz-Mat personnel, along with other investigators, were at the WaWa shopping center until a few hours ago investigating, as that’s where the patient was initially transported from, sources told TLS.

Lets wait til its confirmed before knuckleheads start freaking out. It could be alot of things lets not cause mass hysteria over what could possibly be food poisoning.

Rabosai, its a hint from the Ribono Shel Olam. Its a reminder. Ebola shmebola, the disease doesn’t touch anyone that Hashem doesn’t want it to. The fact that Lakewood Ir Hakodesh is being prodded is a siman that we must do teshuva! I think perhaps it is because of the recent chillul shabbos by the lake. If only we were to be able to bring our kinderlach back from the spiritual gehenom they are heading towards, I think this would all stop.
