Three men who allegedly broke into a Lakewood home on Wednesday were apprehended during their getaway, Police Chief Rob Lawson confirms to TLS.
On Wednesday afternoon, police received a report of a burglary yesterday afternoon at a South Clover home, and a description of the suspect vehicle that had fled the area.
Police quickly responded to the area, and a matching vehicle description was spotted on Cedarbridge Avenue by Officer Erik Menck, the Chief says.
The officer stopped the vehicle, and immediately smelled marijuana emanating from the vehicle, and spotted bolt cutters, wire-cutting tools and piping, the Chief says.
After a run for warrants, police arrested the occupants, and the vehicle was towed to police headquarters to obtain a search warrant. The suspects admitted to the burglary.
A search was conducted on the vehicle, and police located marijuana, a digital scale, empty baggies and more.
The occupants were charged with a slew of charges, including burglary, possession of burglary tools, criminal mischief, trespassing, and distribution of CDS (Controlled Dangerous Substance) within 500 feet of a housing authority. The driver was also charged with driving with a suspended license, driving an unregistered vehicle, and operating a vehicle with CDS.
They were transported to the Ocean County Jail. Bail was set between $15,000-35,000 for the trio, the Chief said.

Wow! Good job LPD! Thanks
I think the police need a search warrant after they tow a vehicle to HQ
It’s called Probable Cause for a reason.
