The Lakewood Scoop is proud to announce we have joined the Lakewood Basketball League to become a team sponsor for the upcoming basketball season!

The League is an adults men’s basketball league, bringing together approximately 50 players, across 6 teams, in an environment that is at once competitive and brotherly. Founded in 2014, the program supports the night seder program of the Minyan Shalanu, and teams are sponsored by local businesses.

“I have not had this much fun in a long time,” says Dov Loberman, a forward on the Global team. “While we know that we are here to help support a wonderful organization, the playing is real and intense. The guys here are playing for keeps!”

The league is run in a professional manner, with teams and schedules meticulously organized. The games are overseen by trained referees, and the players take ball time very seriously. The weekly hour-long games are not meant for the casual player.

“You know, it is great to have an opportunity to play in a setting where the organizers, as well as your fellow players, are so into it,” commented Loberman. “The teams, the venues we played in, all the details – it was all well thought-out. I will definitely be joining next season.”

The third season of the Lakewood Basketball League reached its climax as the Global and Gluck teams faced off to earn the title of League Champions in the final game on February 3rd. The Global team, winners of Wednesday night’s game have hard-earned the boasting rights after a season that saw competitive and spirited playing from all teams.

The Minyan night Seder program pairs mentors with Minyan boys, where they learn, discuss, & debate the topic of the night. It not only does give the teens an opportunity to ask their questions, but allows great relationships to be built among all the participants in the program. All proceeds of LBL leagues will go toward keeping Minyan Shelanu night Seder program going strong.
