Busing update from LSTA Director Avraham Krawiec; What to expect for Day 2

image1- Tomorrow the roads will be heavier as some schools delayed openings today, so please plan accordingly.

2- Best way for the fastest response is to email [email protected]

3- The LSTA does not know the timing or the locations of the buses while on routes .

4- We are now up to 50 percent of the students on buses and 25 percent more were bid today and on the road by Monday iyh . The remainder will hopefully be completed by next week’s Mondays Tuesday bids.

5- As was in previous years we don’t have enough buses in Lakewood and not every route will be picked up by next week as not every route was picked up today .

6- I pledge yet again that I will go out and work on getting busses from other districts, and vendors in neighboring towns to make up the shortfall. My efforts don’t end after bidding next week … my efforts end when as many students as possibly have a way of getting to school no matter how long it takes.

7- The LSTA can only bid out routes and we are at the mercy on the supply and demand in town. The vendors desperately need drivers I have a pledge from them that they will order more buses if they have new drivers join their team .

8- Any schools not routed at this point is by no means the fault of the school or the hanhala . They are calling nonstop on their students behalf . I respect and understand them 10000 percent . I can’t make the process go any faster . I wish I could !

9- Any stop change requests are being logged by the LSTA office and will be worked on once we get the rest of Lakewood up and running

Thank you for your patience and understanding,

Avraham Krawiec

  1. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! R’ Avraham for all your hard (and unfortunately often unfairly criticized) work in getting this done in the best possible way. It’s a huge job and you are doing the best possible and keeping everyone in the loop as much as possible. Thank you again! You should be zoche to keep up your work for the Klal with gezunt!

  2. This wasn’t done a while ago because the bill giving the aid in lieu to a consortium had to be passed first. By the time it was passed we were already very close to school opening.

  3. Calvary Academy never had an issue with getting a bus. Sooooo being the only non orthodox school sort of looks bad that they still do not have a bus. They only need one and boys can ride with girls. Start time is 8 ends at 2:45 LBOE never had an issue getting thwe route bid on. Just makes you wonder.

  4. Maybe if a course was offered that made it easy for people to become bus drivers and it was properly advertised, perhaps with a nice incentive we can get more drivers.

  5. My boys bus arrived on time the second day of school. (First day it never showed up.) My daughter’s bus arrived on time as well. Thank you LSTA for a job well done!!

  6. Does that mean bidding will take place at the end of June in 2017?
And the kids will get a bus driver the first day of school?
And a bus driver that actually practiced the run a couple of times before picking up the kids??
    Just wondering…

  7. just want to make you aware that you had 2 (!) buses from Jays doing the exact same route to Bais faiga – Courtney St going around Brookhill/villas. Both buses were obviously half empty since they certainly didn’t need 2 buses stopping 1 minute apart from each other with the same list of stops! The Bais Faiga Gratter building bus never came to Brookhill/villas at all. Poor girls were told to wait outside and stood there for close to an hour in the sun with heavy school bags. Not a great way for a young child to start her day! On the other hand we were pleasantly surprised when we saw a frum bus driver (for jays) driving home the bais faiga (gatter building) girls! We choose our schools so carefully, and want our children to live a torahdik life and then put them at the mercy of (sometimes unpleasant) bus drivers who do not respect our community. Maybe this should be the time to finally make the change and offer insensitives to frum men to apply for this position.
