James St. backed up from route 9 to Powderhorn (that’s past the co-op past Woodhaven lumber) and growing.

  • Clakewood says:

Well centaral and miller are both completeley backed up like a parking lot!!

  • #H12 says:

Ok I think it’s time to make to levels in lkwd

  • Stressed says:

I’m not sure if I’m the only one who feels this way, but I feel like its time something gets done. Every day i pass more developments going up, more houses being built yet i have not seen even one street getting worked on or expanded in months. Am I the only one who sees that we just dont fit on the roads anymore? For each new block and for each new house, another road should get fixed. For example, now that there are going to be many houses going up on James then Cross should get a right turning lane onto James. If it cant be done that we have got to stop the building.
Thank you for listening to me. A very frustrated Lakewood resident

  • Stop building says:

    Township, are you listening??

  • JustWondering says:

Lakewood has an estimated population of 120,000. The “Master Plan” projects a future population of over 200,000. We are only half way there.

    You ain’t seen nothing yet.

  • Cedar fever says:

    Let’s keep building!!!

  • Attaya rd says:

It took me 50 minutes to drive a 12 minute trip to my daughter”s school. Cross st was bumper to bumper from East Veterans to the light at James st. Every 4 way stop sign was another 10 min wait. Thank God for bussing the rest of the year!!

  • bikes says:

Time for all yeshiva guys/local working guys to ride bikes. relieve some of the traffic!!

  • JustWondering says:

To stressed, there is nothing they can build or do to accommodate this traffic. There will never be more thru streets in town. There are barriers of the lake and county parks, not to mention houses.

I would like to thank the editor of TLS for allowing this forum. $10,000’s a wasted daily with people sitting in traffic. Hundreds if not thousands of hours of Bittul Torah, daily traffic accidents, and Sakonas Nefashos with accidents and the inability of emergency vehicles to get through.

It is time for the residents to take a stand.

  • Shloiimie says:

and the fact that they just put in 100’s of 1000’s of $$$ into new sidewalks in front of KImbal means widening Route 9 isnt on anybody’s agenda. Undoubtedly that is the first place to widen – it needs to have 3 lanes each way from 2nd st all the way to Oak St

  • crazy says:

There are 12 new houses on Williams St that were only supposed to get approval if a light went up at the corner on Williams and Prospect. The houses went up the light didn’t! Where’s the oversight?

  • Build More Houses says:

To all you naysayers, Sorry I believe our township needs to expand. We need to house our community as it grows. We especially need to supply affordable housing to our community as it grows. R Aron Titelbaum just enforced new takanus in KJ where housing prices are limited and investors are banned from purchasing homes. Yes it causes some traffic but that’s part of living in a developed community. Brooklyn is no better. Housing people is far more important than traffic woes.

  • Moish says:

I agree with the earlier commentors. Who is holding these developers and planning board accountable? How did they approve an entire block on the corner of rt 9 and James? Or all those duplexes on Williams? And now they are building developments on the corner of James and Drake, one of the few remaining drivable areas in Lakewood. They keep building and building without the infrastructure to support it. It’s only getting worse.

  • concerned says:

Until the development stops, infrastructure will only get worse. Businesses will not come to an area where workers cannot get to work. Road rage and accidents will multiply. The Planning Board, Zoning Board, MasterPlanners and Councilmen will only act if we join together and force a freeze on development. If I wanted to live in Brooklyn, I would have moved there.

  • BeHonest says:

To number 13, most of the new developments going up are not being built or marketed for the Lakewood Community, and they definitely are not affordable housing.

The builders realized they can get more money marketing these houses to people in NY who want to move in as a block. They can sell it for above the going market rate because those buyers look at it as a bargain relative to Brooklyn (wait till they get their tax bill). This construction has just added to the cost of housing, by opening it up to a whole new population that are competing for the property

Residents of Lakewood are not required to suffer and waste 2 hours a day for every day of their lives because communities in Brooklyn have a housing problem.

For the residents of Lakewood, many are moving to surrounding towns, which are geographically much larger, and have many existing homes for sale. I spoke to many people who moved their and they are all happy there.

In another 5 years, after the “novelty” of living in these towns becomes the norm, younger families will not want to live in Lakewood.
