Statement From Governor Chris Christie on the Fifteenth Anniversary of September 11th

911Governor Chris Christie today released the following statement in remembrance of the September 11, 2001, attacks:

“As we recognize the 15th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, we pause to honor and remember the thousands of innocent people who lost their lives that day in New York City, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania, including the first responders killed during their selfless and heroic efforts to rescue the dying and injured. While today is a particularly somber reminder for the nearly 700 families across the State of New Jersey who tragically lost loved ones, the events of that day continue to weigh heavy in the hearts and minds of every American.

“As we gather at memorial ceremonies around the nation to mourn those killed, let us also go forward with patriotism and resolve to perpetuate the very ideals of a free society that came under attack on September 11, 2011. Let us continue to celebrate the acts of heroism and courage that were displayed not only by the thousands of Americans who responded to the attacks that September morning, but also those in law enforcement and the Armed Forces who continue to make invaluable sacrifices in the protection of our country and our freedoms at home and overseas. This great nation has always been defined by the acts of self-sacrifice and bravery demonstrated by the American people, not by the wounds we have suffered at the hands of murderous zealots.”

Governor Christie signed Executive Order No. 215 ordering all State buildings to fly flags at half-staff on Sunday, September 11, 2016, to recognize and mourn the thousands of lives lost in the September 11th attacks. The Governor also issued a proclamation marking September 11, 2016, as “Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance” throughout New Jersey.
