PHOTOS: Seniors come out to complain about housing application, then leave when facts were presented; Security called in to escort rowdy seniors

Hundreds of senior citizens from Lakewood came out this evening to oppose the Eagle Ridge housing project – many reportedly stating incorrect facts about the proposed project, and then leaving before factual information could be presented.

During a meeting held by the DEP this evening in Jackson – held there to accommodate the crowd – seniors came out in droves to oppose the proposed development at Eagle Ridge – a development expected to look very similar to the Fairways.

Though the meeting was to focus on the environmental aspect, after getting up to oppose the development, seniors got up and left before hearing what the Frum residents had to say about it.

The applicants tell TLS they are proposing a much lower number of homes than rumored, and they are being geared for seniors.

Some complained that it would be too congested.

Interestingly, the Fairways homes were constructed in a zone initially zoned for one home per acre, but ended up with approximately six per acre. Additionally, the homes there were built as four joined units – two duplexes back to back (see photo).

At one point during the meeting, attendees say, a DEP official requested security to escort out several seniors who became rowdy. They reportedly calmed down before security arrived.

The applicants are currently in the CAFRA stage of the application.

  1. The bigger issue here is that Cross Street can’t handle any more traffic. It is already impossible to get to Route 9 from East Veteran’s Highway. This is also a major route for ambulances heading to the hospital. Soon Cross Street will be bumper to bumper all day long. This is a major road from Route 9 to East Veteran’s Highway.
