A judge this afternoon has accepted Agudath Israel of New Jersey’s amended complaint in the Jackson Township Eruv ban, Agudah tells TLS.
As first reported on TLS last month, the lawsuit – which was added as an amendment to their previous lawsuit regarding the dormitory ban – charges that Jackson violated the rights of the Orhtodox Jewish residents who attempted to erect an Eruv in the Township. The lawsuit alleges deliberate discrimination targeting the Jewish population.
The lawsuit alleges that the motivation in both ordinances were one and the same – discriminatory against the Jewish population.
“We made serious efforts to communicate with the Township Council and even after bringing 300 people to the last township meeting to show how important this is to us, they continue to ignore our respectful ask,” said Rabbi Schnall in a statement following the filed lawsuit.
Let’s all remember, suing is not pushing to get your way.
It’s standing up for the American law while sending a clear message to those creating such unamerican ordinances.
Suing? How much?
Potentially winning this lawsuit will somehow legalized the eeruv?
To 2- This has zero to do with money. It is suing for rights to discuss the possibility of an Eruv.
Im vwry curious what Jackson Twsp is gonna taaneh. I heard they’re hiring top notch lawyers for this case. A Twsp official even reached out to try to get Johnny Cochran on retainer, until he found out, much to his chagrin, that Mr. Cochran had passed on. Oh well. They can always get William Kunstler.
our town has nothing to say they know they lost…
Is it not true that as long as the eruv is on private property and within ordinances of how poles are anchored ect. its ok to put up?
Rob- yes I believe that is correct. What people fail to understand is that what the Eruv committee is trying to propose is an eruv on the outskirts of town that nobody will see. In front of everyone’s houses as is legal now is so much more unsightly than what we want which is an eruv around a larger are running along utility poles. It is a joke they are making such a fight but the township doesn’t want to hear anything. No discussions allowed. . .
freedom of speech? I have left comments before never to see them on the Lakewood scoop. Are we picking and choosing now?
