UPDATE: How Far Back Does It Go? US Attorney and NJ Attorney General Subpoena Years of Documents and Correspondence from Jackson Township [DOCUMENTS]

As first reported on TLS, Jackson Township is under active investigation by the U.S. Justice Department and the New Jersey Attorney General regarding its land use practices, particularly its restrictions on Eruvs, schools and dormitories. Jackson potentially violated the federal Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA) and other anti-discrimination regulations.

An extensive scope of documents and communications, dating back several years, have been demanded by the Feds and State, as they seek to determine whether and how deeply Jackson acted to keep Orthodox Jews out of their town.

The State subpoena specifically requests all written and verbal communications, including emails and text messages, from residents to Township officials regarding the Orthodox presence in Jackson. There are thousands of such emails, mostly from a handful of hate-filled individuals to every member of the Township Government and to Code Enforcement and other officials.

It is widely suspected that those emails were sent to Township Officials at their private email addresses and it is hoped that the subpoenas cover those too.

TLS will continue to monitor and report developments.

  1. Please continue to investigate and cover the point re the use of private email addresses. They use those unlawfully to get around OPRA.

  2. This is interesting but I wonder that even if they are found guilty and laws may be ordered to change, how will they lose out and who exactly is held accountable? What are the repercussions?

The Jackson township and 95% of their constituents don’t seem to care for being portrayed as ‘discriminatory’ so it’s not like any findings will cause them major embarrassment.

And are legal fees that big of a deal?

So what’s stopping them from making similar laws in the future and at least pushing things off for a few years…..

  3. The antisemitism dates back till at least 2003 when they condemned 70+ acres of land along the Lakewood border, to build Jackson Liberty High School even though they had another parcel that was allot cheaper and didnt require eminent domain. This was done in order to prevent a Jewish builder from developing it and to effectively create buffer between Lakewood Jewish community and Jackson. If you don’t believe me, ask Bob Singer.

  4. Bias crime. Federal time. Plus whatever NJ adds on. Jackson, where is Hillary when you need her? LOL. I heard Jackson hired the law firm of Duck, Dodge and Bloch.
