TAKE NOTICE: Adult passenger ticketed by NJSP on GSP for not wearing seat belt in back seat (PHOTO)

A Lakewood resident tells TLS he was ticketed for no seat belt, as a passenger in the rear seat of a vehicle on the Garden State Parkway.

The passenger, who was being given a ride from Lakewood to Brooklyn, says the driver was pulled over, and the Trooper asked for the ID of the driver, as well as his, and then proceeded to ticket just him.

If you are giving others a ride, be sure your passengers are also wearing seat belts – as required by law.

  1. It’s the law. Follow the law (and common sense) and you won’t get tickets.

That being said, why was he pulled over? Rear seat-belt is a secondary offense.

  2. More to this story than meets the eye. Why was the driver pulled over? Plus, Gavi is correct. Ticket was given in the South Bound lanes so they were not traveling from Lakewood to Brooklyn.

  3. a) He was probably pulled over for failing not to be Jewish and not because of the backseat driver,
    b) He probably is behind on his monthly quota.
    c) Once he had pulled him over and noticed a backseat passenger failing to be non Jewish as well he was able to find something to ticket him for. However unfortunately the driver was wearing a seat belt so he couldn’t ticket him.

  4. #1, if you were the passenger in the back seat of a car that has an accident and you are thrown through the windshield and killed , you’d better believe your wish you were belted in to begin with

  5. I thought it was a secondary offense and u can’t be pulled over for that unless it’s not the only reason u are being pulled

    Which I’m this case…

  6. The fact that someone whether they’re driving or in the passanger seat get a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt is a disgrace to our constitution.

A seatbelt not bring used can’t hurt anyone but the person not wearing it, so why in the world can I be ticketed for such a thing?
What’s next, someone who’s smoking can be ticketed for smoking even though he’s harming no one but himself?

    • Someone who is smoking is harming not only himself, he is harming everyone who is forced to breathe in his second hand smoke. He is harming his family and will eventually leave them to continue to survive without him.

    • 1000% FALSE. In a collision, unbelted passengers will be thrown around the vehicle, striking the belted passengers. It is no different than having a 150 pound block of cement flying around your car as you roll over.

  7. What a bunch of whiners. Wear your seatbelts regardless of where you are seated in the vehicle. Tell your passengers that the engine won’t be turned on until their seatbelts are are on. How hard is this?

  8. This vehicle was either pulled over for going over the speed limit, switching lanes without a single or some other offense, when an officer gives a ticket like that he’s being nice & letting them off the hook, obviously a warning is much more appreciated then a seatbelt ticket, stop whining & be happy with the seatbelt ticket the officer just saved you from getting points on your license, court appearance, hundreds of dollars & an insurance increase. When I got pulled on the parkway for going 94 in a 55 I was extremely appreciative to the officer for letting me off with a seatbelt ticket,I paid the ticket online the next day & am more careful when driving

  9. It’s painful for us to comfort reality, that having a Jewish look, can get you pulled over!
I’ve driven the Lakewood-Brooklyn route at night countless times and only got pulled over the time it was during the day. Yes even here in America, We are hated.

  10. Cops and law and order bashing sarcastic wisecracks and no one has the courage to sign their real name. Why is that? Probably have a fake email address too. Makes me wonder how many tries until they get the math right.

  11. Why does it have to be that this cop was an anti-Semite for giving him a ticket? Some ppl that comment here about any sort of ticket seem to think that everyone alive hates them grow up and realize that you may just be doing something wrong. Also FYI cops don’t have quotas

  12. Law clearly states that driver is only responsible for the passenger if the passenger is under 18. If the passenger is over 18 it’s the passenger’s ticket

  13. really a seatbelt not being worn only hurts the passenger? my neighbor’s brother was hit by a car because the driver couldnt see the pedestrian as he was not wearing a reflector belt. the victim eventually died but the driver WHO WAS NOT AT FAULT has to live with the knowledge that he killed someone for the rest of his life. perhaps the cop issued the ticket because he had seen one too many fatal car accidents because people were too dumb to use the sense they were born with
