Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Play Grounds

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

Hi Mr. Mayor,

Thank you for this great forum.

I have noticed that local playgrounds have been upgraded recently and I think that is just fantastic. Thanks!

Although these playgrounds are wonderful, I feel that they will not get that much use during the time children need them most, namely the long afternoons under the hot summer sun.

I have seen that some places install large vinyl sun shades over playgrounds which allow children to use them much more comfortably. – Please see the attached photo for reference.

Can you please look into this for Lakewood’s playgrounds? This will greatly increase the value of the infrastructure investment.

Thanks!
Yehuda

Response from Mayor Coles:

Hi Yehuda,

Public Works has been doing a great job in rehabbing many of our playgrounds, with more to come. I think the shade sail idea is pretty cool. I will forward the idea on to our parks supervisor to see if it could work in any of our playgrounds.

Thanks for suggesting it.

Ray

  1. Are there any plans for new playgrounds to be added? Was there ever any kind of census to see where new parks should and could be added?

  2. They just put land on Prospect for a new park. Is there going to be a playground on Vine? The town wants to close down the playground on 4th near Park

  3. To turn into a parking lot, the neighbor dos not want it , all the kids playing on it all summer must not be from the area
