VIDEO: Lakewood School District Further Improves Special Education Opportunities

In the continuing effort to improve in district special education opportunities, the school district created several new innovative programs this school year.

These programs improve education opportunities while being saving countless dollars on out of district programming that often have less success and less accountability .

One such program is the High School Transition Program that provides educational and real work opportunities for students who are classified, and in accordance with Federal and State Law must be provided with meaningful transition opportunities to the community and work force.

The High School Transition Program had great success with 10 students this year, who while earning credits, earned money by working at local stores such as TJ Max, Gourmet Gourmet, Center of Town, and the US Post Office.

The school district has plans to expand the program to more than 20 public students next year.
