A Toms River man was seriously injured when he was struck by a vehicle on Route 9, police say.
At approximately 2:40 PM yesterday, multiple Toms River Police Units, Ocean County Prosecutors Office, and the Ocean County Sheriff Criminal Investigation Unit responded to a pedestrian accident on Route 9, south of Rt. 70.
“Samuel Mauro, 81 of Manchester Twp., was traveling north on Route 9, approximately 370 feet south of Route 70,” police said. “Michael S Goldberg, 60 of Toms River, was walking eastbound and was attempting to cross Route 9. Mr. Goldberg successfully crossed the southbound lane of Route 9. When attempting to cross the northbound lane, he stepped into the path of Mr. Mauro’s vehicle and was struck. Mr. Goldberg was not crossing within a crosswalk and was attempting to cross Route 9 mid-block. He improperly crossed the roadway and additionally failed to yield the right away to Mr. Mauro, causing the collision.”
Mr. Goldberg was transported by Toms River Township Ambulance to Jersey Shore Medical Center and is listed in critical but stable condition.
