FIRST REPORT: Masked men carjack and stab driver in Lakewood [UPDATED]

A carjacking and stabbing in Lakewood is under investigation, police confirmed to TLS.

At approximately 10:50 PM last night, Officers Nicholas Romeo and Derek McAvoy were dispatched to respond to a home security alarm at an East Spruce Street home.

Upon arrival, the Officers observed what appeared to be blood on the front porch. While trying to locate a potential victim, Officer Tymur Zavalnyuk was sent to Monmouth Medical Southern Campus after an unidentified male arrived with an apparent stab wound. The Officers quickly linked to the two events together and established the appropriate crime scenes for further investigation.

According to the victim, a 24-year-old Lakewood man, he had just arrived at a friend’s home on East Spruce Street when he was approached by three men wearing ski masks. Two of the suspects were described as approximately 5’5″ and chunky, the other, as 5’10’-5’11” and thin. All three approached the driver side door of his black 2007 BMW, New Jersey registration J96-GXJ, and forcefully removed him. He stated that a struggle ensued, in which he sustained a large laceration to the side of his head and at least two non-life-threatening stab wounds to his chest.

The suspects then entered the BMW and sped off in an unknown direction. The 24-year-old victim was able to locate his friend, who then transported him the hospital.

At this time, the investigation is active and the unknown suspects are considered to be armed and dangerous and the vehicle has not been recovered. If you should see the vehicle, DO NOT approach it or its occupants. Call 9-1-1 immediately.

Anyone with information regarding the case is urged to contact Officer Kevin Martin at 732-363-0200 ext. 5340.

In this large town which has become a city we need more police patrolling streets for safety during night hours. Focus first should be on our safety then giving tickets

    • me,myself&i says:

While I agree with your point, @lyk, about more police patrolling, I would like to point out that even though tickets bring revenue to a town, they are primarily given for our safety.

having lived in Lakewood for over 20 years, and not being the most observant guy in terms of traffic and parking rules, I have to say that the police in Lakewood are really not too focused on giving out summonses. I have gotten my fair share of tickets while visiting or driving in other municipalities and other states. I think that Lakewood police is mostly focused on stopping crime and attending to the numerous accidents that happen in our town every single day. Lakewood cops are pretty fair with regards to handing out summonses for violations. we should appreciate that.

  • moshke says:

Totally Agree the cops in this town are not looking to give summonses

  • Jack says:

@Sam why should we appreciate that? Perhaps if they were stricter and gave out more summonses there wouldn’t be the 10+ accidents happening daily!! I would personally prefer they gave out more tickets. Even if that means I would get a ticket.
