Lakewood DPW could soon begin operating 24 hours

The Lakewood Department of Public Works could soon operate around the clock.

DPW Director Phil Roux tells TLS they are currently in the process of developing a plan and putting together a team for a third shift for the overnight hours.

Having an overnight shift would help the DPW become even more efficient, and save time by avoiding daytime traffic. It would help reduce traffic during trash collections.

The new shift, says Roux, would focus mainly on industrial and school areas, to avoid waking up sleeping residents.

In addition, says Roux, the Department is looking to conduct more road work on Saturdays to help alleviate traffic around town.

Due to overnight pay differential taxes are heading up!

  • keep town quiet says:

does this mean it will be noisy at night. Most DPW trucks are noisy. Please consider focusing on the more industrial areas for this overnight shift.ty

  • MAMA BEAR says:

With the excess of tax revenue this town has, the wisest way to disburse it is by allowing regular work to be done at overtime rates.

  • LY says:

Good idea guys for a busy big town like this we need around the clock work

  • Just saying.. says:

I can’t believe what I am reading (not really). anything that is tried to improve this town someone always has to complain. I have an idea to all the complainers….run for office and show us how to do this right

  • RebRambo says:

This would only include areas like Oak Street etc. where the schools aren’t too close to residential areas but many schools are. But, DPW does try and work hard and we appreciate it.

  • Space in says:

To mr keep quiet if u can read it says they r focusing industrial areas at night not residential due to noise

  • Taxes going up says:

Just remember someone has to pay for this. Taxes will go up and that is a given. Over development is causing many of Lakewood’s issues — traffic, increased accidents, and flooding do to removal of so many trees. Nothing good has come out of over development.

  • Hunch says:

Looking forward to the rise in property taxes.
Wil 3rd shift workers get paid time+half? Or double?

  • Piners says:
