Congressman Smith slams Rep. Ilham Omar’s anti-Semitic statements: ‘A Manifestation of the New Anti-Semitism’

Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) issued the following statement today:

“At a hearing I chaired on combatting anti-Semitism in 2004, the great Jewish human rights leader—and former prisoner of conscience in the Soviet Union—Natan Sharansky testified that there was not only a ‘resurgence of anti-Semitic activity in the democratic world’ but a ‘new anti-Semitism’ that is ‘far more subtle’ and ‘poses a unique challenge’.

“He said that while ‘classical anti-Semitism is aimed at the Jewish people or the Jewish religion’ the new anti-Semitism is ‘aimed at the Jewish State’.

“Noting that the Jewish State should not be above criticism, he testified that this new anti-Semitism ‘can hide behind the veneer of legitimate criticism of Israel’.

“Sharansky said that employing the 3D test—demonization, double standards and delegitimization—is useful in exposing anti-Semitism.

“Rep. Ilham Omar’s outrageous tweet that ‘Israel has hypnotized the world may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel’ or her tweet that politicians are being bought by AIPAC to support Israel is not legitimate criticism but a manifestation of the new anti-Semitism.”

  1. Forget MN, we have plenty of Antisemitism locally. What’s a Jew to do? I posted this in another article, about that Rise Up, but feel it is apropos here too:

Historically, whenever we Yidden retreat, they see us as helpless, and we become victims. When we stand our ground and fight, nothing can stop us for we have HaShem’s protection and the laws of the United States.

What we should do, against this Rise Up group of Antisemites, is Rise Up to their challenge. We should let our presence and our power be felt as a community. We should visit the tourist areas in the summer, but not patronize the businesses. Walk the boards of Spring Lake, Sea Girt, and Point Pleasant and Seaside. We should go to the open houses, and other free public venues, and let them see our unity of purpose. The haters will be helpless, and gnash their teeth in helpless rage against the power of our unity, and they will be ready to deal.

We must continue to expand. To do otherwise would be self-defeating. Remember, there is nothing we could do that would make them like us so the best choice they have, is to sell and move away.

The national campaign against bullying tells us that we can contribute to that national effort by stopping the bullying against us.We can stand up to these bullies by identifying and exposing these haters by name. Let them be taken to court on the slightest provocation, and made to pay actual fines whenever possible or appropriate. They have already cost us untold amounts in terms of peace of mind, and the law is on our side. We should use it whenever we have a clear cut path to victory.

We can easily fight, and win…the legal way.

  2. This Rep. Omar, I’m afraid, is a total crackpot. Right up there with the Rep from DC who said Jews control the weather. And ppl voted these guys in.
    And, I’m like, HELLO ??!!

    • What, are you trying to say we DON’T control the weather? Controlling the weather is a long and proud tradition in my family. As is customary, I learned to rain dance on the day after my Bar Mitzvah.
