Larry Loigman has been confirmed the winner in the Lakewood fire commissioner elections, TLS has confirmed.
As first reported in TLS, the numbers were initially too close to call and needed to be finalized by the County.
Following a Board meeting moments ago, it was declared Loigman had picked up the most votes. The total was 340-307.
The budget vote has not yet been finalized.
UPDATE: Sources tell TLS the budget question resulted in a tie, and will now require a recount. Should the recount not change the results, it will go to the Township Committee.
The second question on the ballot requesting funds for additional apparatus, has passed.
UPDATE 4:22 PM. TLS has learned the tie was due to a system error, but after a recount, it turns out the budget has passed by a single vote.
Larry Loigman provided TLS with the following statement.
“I want to thank everyone who voted in the election for demonstrating your interest in the fire department. Whether you voted for me, or for my opponent (who is also dedicated to serving this community), you showed your support for effective public fire protection. I hope that, b’ezras Hashem, I will be able to serve all of you to the best of my ability, and I will work for the good of all of Lakewood’s residents.”
