[COMMUNICATED] For those suffering from Lyme, it can be a long and lonely road. Most doctors, family and friends are not educated about this epidemic which has hit many in our community like a rock over the head. This has prompted the establishment of Life for Lyme which is holding a ladies’ night out fundraising event today at 21 Oasis Court. Come enjoy a night out and get educated on lyme while supporting those in need of your assistance.
Life For Lyme is a local organization established to help those suffering with Lyme and other tick borne diseases which if left untreated can attack the central nervous system and go from organ to organ. It will deplete the body of its nutrients, compromise the immune system and cause a variety of damaging consequences leaving its victims chronically ill for years until the right diagnosis is found. Because it mimics so many other illnesses, lyme is often called “the great imitator” and is therefore sometimes difficult to diagnose.
Being that testing can be highly inaccurate, traditional doctors are largely ignorant and people are uneducated, Life For Lyme is the sole support system for many. The road to recovery is long and taxing and since the expertise of specialists are often required, much of the treatment is not covered by insurance.
In addition to a referral department and a support group, Life For Lyme is now establishing a fund to alleviate the enormous financial burden on families of those affected. The OJC (the parent organization) is also actively lobbying for lyme on a state and federal level to get government and insurance coverage for proper testing, treatment, education and awareness.
Proceeds of this event and any subsequent donations received will be used to help families and to continue the necessary lobbying. There are more great things to come Be’ezrat Hashem. Your tax deductible donation will be greatly appreciated by those families whose lives have been turned upside down.
