Update on $6 million Sunset Road area sewer project

The Sunset Road project is currently about 30% complete.

Pillari Brothers is now the sub-contractor through Ferreira to complete project, as Ferreira has failed to have the ability to complete project.

Contractors anticipate this can be completed by end of June.

As far as Kimball Road, they are hoping to complete this section within the same time frame as Sunset Road – by June.

  1. 30% complete? What have they been doing all this time? The street has been under construction since July! It looks like all they do is break up the road, dig up the dirt, mix it around a bit, put the dirt back in, and close up the road… The next day, they do it all over again! What could possibly be taking so long? Is this just a justification for the water company to increase the rates due to “capital improvements”?

  2. At the beginning of the project, when people complained that it was taking too long, I thought they were being too impatient and that they should learn that it’s inconvenient to live through necessary infrastructure improvements. However, now I’m beginning to think they may have been right. If this really does end in June that will mean the project took 1 whole year. I remember getting a phone call from the water company in the fall saying that it would take 2 more months. I’m beginning to wonder if the customers are being given the runaround. Is anyone overseeing this project to know exactly what they are doing and how long it has to take?

  3. could have told u from day one that was doomed for failure. Fireirra had a crew of 4 guys inching their way up sunset, and just filling up dump trucks all day. seemed like someone playing with their tonka trucks. Cops themselves not sure whats going on. I called the County, they were reluctant to show me the permit.( Sunset is a county road , though the county blames the issue on the MUA while the MUA reverts it back onto the county) I doubt the county simply allocated the water company all the time they want in order to complete this project. Simply not fair to the residents of New England Village to divert the masses into the rather serene neighborhood. This is what happens when the project is allocated to the lowest bidder, u get what u pay for. There should be a maximum time cap in place before any hiring/bidding. We reach out to our elected officials to help us with this matter

  4. This is ridiculous. The cars diverted through New England Village drive too fast, don’t realize this is still a nice quiet residential neighborhood
    The delays are really unfair.

Get a real company in here to finish this job….

  5. Omg, someone is getting very rich on our dime is all I can say! Where are our elected officials? Or are they also getting hush money??! Seriously! We’re talking about changing pipes… why does that take a year?? How can us taxpayers get involved and demand more transparency with these contracts?

  6. It is a complete joke.

The company hired can’t get it done, so instead of getting fired they get to subcontract it out to someone else.
Who says they are competent enough to hire a subcontractor?

And to say Kimball Road will be completed in June is a travesty. They are more than halfway up the street and have been working on it for months… all the while inconveniencing everyone and damaging peoples property.

Who will hold them accountable to put the fences, lawns and driveways back together?

Where are letters to residents? Why do we have to read about it here?

NJ Water should be held accountable for their complete lack of responsibility here

  7. We should start videoing how slow they work and maybe it will start working a little faster and might actually be done by June!
PS it’s not illegal to video in a public area.

  8. This is NJAW (New Jersey American Water Company) construction, a huge private company which services the west/north side of Lakewood, not the MUA(Municipal Utilities Authority), which services the east/south part of Lakewood.

  9. Omg. That’s more money than it takes to build a whole new street from scratch! U probably could get a development builder to do for half price!
And a year!?!? Sounds like Mueller investigations…as long as they are being paid monthly they keep working…why stop? Why finish? Then the money stops too!
