A personal plea from Dr. & Mrs. Shanik

In the past few days, we have received 101 calls from families asking for help from Ahavas Tzedakah in order to have the bare minimum needs for Pesach.

That’s 101 of our neighbors, family and friends who literally cannot afford the basic necessities.

Each story is more heartbreaking than the next.

Can we say no to the single mother with 4 children, one with special needs and astronomical medical expenses? Or should we say no to the almana and 7 yesomim and yesomos, whose shoes are too small tattered and full of holes? Or should we say no to the family whose father was just laid off from work and has to tell his wife and children that Yom Tov will not be the way it always was? A family who has unfortunately been evicted from their home this week? One woman who called has been on the waiting list since Sukkos and literally will not be able to make Yom Tov without our help!

We CANNOT say no to anyone, But, in order for us to say yes, we need you to say yes to us.

We provide on average $750 per family, depending on the size of the family, the need, and other factors. While this may not seem like a lot to some of us, for the families we help, it can make all the difference.

We beg you to please help as much or as little as you can to allow us to add another 101 families to our Pesach list today. The urgency is real and the situation is dire. We are sure that you, our community of Rachmanim Bnei Rachmanim will do all you can to help.

Wishing all a Chag Kosher V’Sameach

  2. I can not begin to fathom how painful this must b to DR. Shanik. I once had friend of mine call me to ask for help to make Yom Tov. And besides for a little matzos I couldn’t help him. It’s so sad. It’s so painful. And that only happened to me ONCE. Imagine getting a hundred of those calls. Nebech. I hope we can all help out, big and small and help The Shanik’s provide for these desperate families.

  3. This is heartbreaking. It’s also a head scratcher. On the one hand you have 1%ears in our communities, spending $1000s on hotel programs and renting houses in Orlando, enjoying themselves and on the other hand, Working and Learning people dont have $500 to buy food or get their kids clothing, hats, shoes for the Chag. And I’m not judging anyone; everyone is entitled and, in fact, encouraged to enjoy Yom Tov but the gap between the 2 camps is Pretty Stark.

    • throughout the generations there have been ashirim and aniyim. The ashirim are being asked to help the aniyim. that is the way of the world. Nothing new.

  4. One thing to think about is that our community is the only community where the multi millionaire lives next door to the poor person that’s struggling to make a parnasah,
In the non Jewish world the wealthy people live in their own secluded areas, this Jewish phenomenon has a negative effect as it raises everyone’s standards.

  5. heartbreaking. Wish I was a millionaire so I could help them all. Big opportunity for everyone. Please help your neighbors feel like a mench. I’m writing as a parent who unfortunatly had a child go to bed hungry one night because we had no food or $. The need is really out there. please give
