Attorney General Barr: No Collusion

Before releasing a redacted version of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report to Congress and then the public, Attorney General Bill Barr held a press conference alongside Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein who oversaw the Mueller investigation, to give the Justice Department’s perspective on the results of the Mueller investigation. Attorney General Barr said that while the investigation uncovered extensive evidence of a Russian scheme to interfere with and affect the 2016 presidential election, no evidence was found to conclude that Trump or members of his campaign team knowingly cooperated with the Russians.

“After nearly two years of investigation, thousands of subpoenas and hundreds of warrants and witness interviews, the special counsel confirmed that the Russian government sponsored efforts to illegally interfere with the 2016 presidential election, but did not find that the Trump campaign or other Americans colluded in these schemes,” said Barr.

Barr also said that the investigation looked into 10 instances in which President Trump could have possibly been guilty of obstruction of justice, however he and other Justice officials determined that the bar for obstruction was not met. The AG suggested that the President’s frame of mind may have played a role in his decision to decline moving charges of obstruction forward. “The President was frustrated and angered by a sincere belief that the investigation was undermining his Presidency,” Barr said.

Democrats in Congress immediately began expressing their displeasure with Barr’s press conference, claiming that the Attorney General was deliberately spinning a narrative prior to the release of the report so as to frame the discussion of the details in the report in a way that benefits the President.

President Trump responded exultantly to the press conference, tweeting a picture which said on it ‘No Collusion. No Obstruction. For The Haters And Radical Left Democrats – Game Over’.
