New Township Ordinance to Convey Land for Hatzolah Training and Response Center

Tonight, the Lakewood Township read a second Ordinance authorizing the private sale and conveyance of Block 554, lot 1 to Hatzolah of Lakewood. This welcome move by the Township committee will help bring Hatzolah to a more centralized location to better service the community, and continue to save taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars annually through Hatzolah’s community funded emergency medical services.

For more than 30 years, Lakewood Hatzolah has been servicing the Lakewood community. The selfless volunteers save lives on a daily basis, making our community a safer and better place to live. As Lakewood’s population has been growing, Lakewood Hatzolah has been at the forefront of ensuring Lakewood has the state of the art lifesaving equipment, the best training and most innovative technology. Nothing is more valuable to our community than life itself.

Lakewood Hatzolah responds to over 9000 calls annually. “We maintain 11 BLS ambulances, 3 ALS Vehicles, 1 Extrication truck, and first responder vehicles all around our community, to ensure the best possible response time,” Rabbi Moti Twerski, Administrator of Hatzolah told TLS. “Our ambulances are state of the art, featuring the latest lifesaving equipment.”

Lakewood’s 24.98 square miles, and population of 120,000, Hatzolah’s services and vast resources are critical to the safety of the community. “This new property will house a state of the art training center, to keep Hatzolah at the cutting edge of emergency medical technology and provide a centralized and strategic location to better serve the growing community,” longtime Lakewood Hatzolah Paramedic Shauli Wolhendler told TLS.

With an operating and capital budget of more than $2 million dollars annually, Lakewood Hatzolah, through the generous support of its donors, provides a critical service to the community, and saves Lakewood Township hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. But, more important than the finances is the 130 members, all around the community, fully equipped and ready to respond at a moment’s notice provides the security and critical lifesaving services with the best response time in the state. “When every second matters, when a child is choking, drowning, a person suffering a heart attack, we need a response time that is typically under 2 minutes,” said Rabbi Avraham Waxman, Hatzolah’s Director of Development.

This Ordinance will no doubt be welcomed by the community who has benefited so much from Hatzolah’s services, as well as Hatzolah’s role in keeping the township’s emergency response expenses as low as they are. Hatzolah, a community funded organization benefits the Lakewood taxpayer and, this ordinance is an excellent investment on the part of the Township.
