Jackson Council to condemn international Hate while ignoring local anti-Semitism | A. Webley

Jackson Township Council is expected to take a vote tonight on a resolution condemning the Boycott, Divest, Sanction (BDS) movement which advocates not buying products manufactured in the state of Israel. BDS is widely seen as an anti-Semitic movement hiding behind the veneer of standing up to human rights violations. While such a vote would normally be considered a positive step and an affirmation of the rights of Jews to live in harmony and prosperity, Jackson’s vote this evening is highly suspicious.

Jackson Township is embroiled in several ongoing lawsuits alleging that officials have been engaging in practices that are intended to keep Jews out of Jackson. With piles of evidence strongly suggesting that the plaintiffs case is solid and the behavior of township officials illegal, Jackson currently finds itself in serious legal jeopardy. As things stand now, it is to be expected that the judges presiding over the lawsuits will vote in favor of the plaintiffs and against Jackson.

This being the case, it is highly probable that Jackson’s Township Council has scheduled a vote to condemn BDS as a way to show the judge that they are really pro-Jewish and supportive of Jews in general. This is most obviously nothing more than a ploy to tip the legal scales in their favor. Is it really to be believed that a Council that refused to condemn blatant anti-Semitism is truly standing up for Jews by condemning a movement that has no affect on anyone, Jewish or non-Jewish, in Jackson? Should we take a condemnation or BDS at face value when Jackson’s mayor Mike Reina declined to directly confront rampant anti-Semitism in the town?

While condemning anti-Semitic organizations and movements is highly laudable, when that condemnation is no more than pandering to the Jewish community in order to gain favor in court, it only underscores the need for officials, in this case Jackson’s, to start taking anti-Semitic behavior seriously.

Until Jackson’s officials begin taking steps to combat anti-Semitism in their town and to make Jackson safe and hospitable to people from all faiths, votes like this one should be taken with a healthy measure of wariness and skepticism.

  2. I agree with the letter and the posts. However, someone should mention this tonight in public, in front of these 2-facers. Mentioning it here is a good start but not nearly enough. We need to take this to the next level.

  3. Mike Reina is no friend of the Jews and all should be careful….in 2020 when Nixon is up the Jews will have a 2400 vote block and hopefully will support the Democrats..nothing can be worse then Nixon
