Store-owners, residents chase down man suspected of using counterfeit money in Lakewood

A man suspected of using counterfeit money in Lakewood was chased down today.

Shortly after 2 PM, store-owners at the Gourmet Glatt plaza reportedly recognized a man they believed was responsible for purchasing small items using counterfeit $100 bills. After the purchase today, multiple store-owners and witnesses gave chase.

The men chased the suspect all the way to Forest Avenue and 14th Street, where he got into a vehicle and fled.

The suspect is described as a black male who got into a black BMW.

  1. Always check bills (20,50,100) with a UV scanner. Refuse to take them. Remember the person could be an innocent victim. This guy sounds like a repeat offender. Cheap on Amazon. Cheaper than chasing a guy down who is probably a drug dealer and could be armed.

  2. My wife was there and saw the scuffle. At one point, several people had this thug all wrapped up, then the guy starting swinging and twisting and they were left holding his shirt and he bolted. Naturally, and this may shock you, the kishke aficionados couldn’t quite keep pace with him.

  3. I hope this doesn’t turn into a racial profiling problem now. Does this mean that no store owner will take $100 Bill’s from an African American ? It shouldn’t come to that. We need more love, trust and understanding, not less.
    I can’t wait for the footage to be released. Sounds like this guy is faster than Saquan Barkley.
