This Sunday: Partial Closures on the Verrazzano Bridge

The Staten Island-bound lower level of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge will be closed this Sunday, May 5 from 12:01 AM to 6 PM for the annual Five Boro Bike Tour. The upper level of the bridge will remain open in both directions throughout the event.

Motorists should expect delays and allow extra travel time. To hear information about the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge bike tour closures, call 718-556-8010.

The bike tour, held annually on the first Sunday of May since 1977, is expected to attract over 30,000 riders. The 40-mile route takes bikers through portions of all five NYC boroughs and across five major bridges. The thousands of bikers, road and bridge closures snarl traffic for hours across New York City, and motorists are recommended to refrain from traveling in the area of the tour unless necessary.

In addition to the partial closure of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, the New York City Department of Transportation has released a list of expected road closures throughout New York City’s 5 Boros. The closures  will be from 7:30 AM to 6 PM, at the discretion of the NYPD.
