BREAKING – FIRST REPORT: Lakewood School District Files Emergency Motion To Block Funding Cut; Proposed State budget will also cut State monies to the LSTA, other specialized programs

On Monday, Democrats approved a state budget that would severely damage Lakewood by cutting aid that was promised to Lakewood’s Public Schools.

At 10:35 this morning, Michael Inzelbuch, attorney for Lakewood’s Public Schools District, filed an emergency motion in court to stop the plan by Assembly Democrats to slash $30 million in funding to Lakewood’s schools. Inzelbuch’s motion was filed in state court before Judge Susan Scarola.

Although Judge Scarola is currently overseas, due to the urgent nature of the court filing, Mr. Inzelbuch requested an emergency phone conference with the judge. The emergency motion argues that for Lakewood to provide a “thorough and efficient” education to its students, the district needs the state aid that had been promised.

The Department of Education is on record saying that Lakewood is due the $30 million that was promised to them and that was included in Governor Murphy’s budget.

“The budget passed yesterday by Assembly Democrats is not the end of the story – Lakewood will fight for the funds needed to provide it’s students with the education they need and deserve,” a Lakewood school district official told TLS.

This story will be updated.

UPDATE: TLS has learned that the proposed State budget will also cut all State monies to the LSTA, and significantly reduce funding to the Special Children’s Center, SCHI, and other specialized programs.

  1. Don’t vote for Democratic it time to vote for Republicans. The Democratic have proven that they don’t care about Jobs, Education, Medical.

  2. Do ya think that maybe G-d may play a role in this at all?
Do ya think that maybe there is some repercussions to lobbying the Health Department to summarily exclude hundreds of children from yeshiva this winter?
Or do you think that this all happens “by chance”?

    • Maybe G-d is paying back all those parents who refuse to vaccinate.

Maybe we have no clue why G-d is doing this.

Maybe, if Poskim and Gedolim like Reb Meir Stern and Reb Eliyahu Levine paskened that schools are acting correctly by sending home non-vaccinated children, in shomayim they also paskened like that and Hashem does not punish people for acting correctly.

  3. How much of this money is going to private versus public schools? Because Lakewood’s public schools are being starved to death.

  4. Let unite & all enroll to the public school system for September !

I assure you we will get the necessary funding within minutes!!

  5. If we can get our act together & UNITE & all mosdos take all their student to apply for the Lakewood public school system

I can assure you the governor will helicopter over here with a check in hand

We cost them so little & we contribute so much ! this is just chutzpah

  6. Pathetic how we pay & pay & pay & we have to come begging for just the basics like bussing!!
Then they peddle to the haters how it is costing so much to provide the bussing/special ed that we deserve.
TIme for school choice or public school enrollment

  7. The problem with enrolling is that what happens if the government calls the bluff? The children will either be forced to go to public school or it will anger the state who will then be hesitant to work with Lakewood again on anything with possible state and federal fraud and other charges filed against the parents when the children don’t show up to school?
