UPDATE: Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles receives call from Verizon in response to letter

In response to the letter penned to Verizon, Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles tells TLS he received a call from the company.

For months, readers have been complaining to TLS about the weak service in Lakewood – particularly with Verizon, a service customers used to have few issues with.

Mayor Coles says the company’s main issue with the failing service in Lakewood is due to the tremendous concentration of old equipment in one particular area.

The company says Lakewood has the highest concentration of 3G network users on their network, putting a drag on the system.

As 3G fades out, a 4G product equipped with limited capabilities to service those who wish to maintain the basic phone, could soon be available.

But in  an effort to increase service around Lakewood, says the Mayor, the company said it would be adding a cell tower next month on New Hampshire Avenue, as well as enhanced systems at their current towers on Ridge Avenue, and at their towers on River Avenue near Central Avenue.

In addition, the company intends to add enhancements in 2020 to the area of 1700 Madison Avenue.

Those experiencing issues can also file their complaints with the FCC here.

  1. I saw someone adding cell phone towers to the water tower on the corner of New Hampshire and Cedarbridge (next to Chai Care). Is that for Verizon?

  2. So basically, when that petition went around a few months ago and all the 3G people patted themselves on the back for getting Verizon to agree to keep 3G around….

    That hurt the 4G users!

Time for a petition to drop 3G and move to 4G?? Lol

  3. I dont see why verizon has to accommodate people using old equipment, for the good of everyone they should disable all 3G devices and force everyone to upgrade its 10 years old already its high time to upgrade

  4. So basically what they’re saying is that all the people that complained months ago about the 3G being upgraded to 4g and wanting to keep 3g as long as possible is what’s causing bad service for all of us 4G users…

  5. Excuses excuses excuses!! We pay TOP dollar for your service do what’s necessary to make it work and stop playing the BLAME GAME

  6. I feel like we can do better. how about we instead petition for a phone that has no built in internet capability, uses 4g and either has a qwerty keyboard or a good touch screen? the whole reason for keeping 3g is to keep our dumbphones that have no internet capability but we also want those phones to be working:)

    • You can petition all you want. But why is Verizon required to create a custom phone for you?

The 3G petition at least was for them to fill their legal requirements to supply 3G until 2020.
