At Tuesday evening’s meeting, the Toms River council passed a resolution demanding the resignation of fellow Councilman Daniel T. Rodrick.
Saying he was unfit for elected office due to his bigoted behavior, every member of the council – besides for Rodrick – voted in favor of the resolution.
Elected to a 4-year term in 2017, Rodrick ran a vicious, no holds barred campaign leading up to last week’s primary. During his campaigning, Rodrick released a flier made to look like a newspaper with a headline blaring “Mo Hill Gets Big Endorsement” along with a picture of Hill smiling next to an Orthodox Jewish resident of Toms River.
Rodrick himself was the only Councilman to vote no on the resolution calling for his resignation. During the vote, Rodrick lashed out at the other Councilmembers for their “outrageous” vote, and portrayed himself as the victim, saying at the meeting “this is what happens when you run against the establishment.”
The vote comes on the heels of an expose which revealed that Heather Barone, a Toms River planning board member, made hate-filled posts against the Orthodox community following her crushing defeat in the primary. A resignation letter from Barone was read at last night’s meeting prior to the censure vote.
Although the council cannot remove him by force, the resolution has put pressure on Roderick to resign his seat.

Good-bye, Danny-Boy.
Perhaps you and Heather can take up residence in Saudi Arabia, where you won’t have to deal with any Jews.
Rodrick: Get out! You are a shame and a disgrace!
Hate has no home in Toms River. Those who hate, move away. You may disagree on how big a house of worship property should be or who should be allowed to serve in our army. But TR is a township of love. Leave it if you’re a hater. You will lose at the end like Heather and Dan.
