Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: Clifton Ave Park

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question:

I am wondering what the story is with the park located at the corner of 7th Street/Clifton Ave. Why is it closed?? It is now the summer and no reason for it to sit idle! Even now, after 4:00 pm it is locked. Why?

Looking forward to a quick resolution.

Thank you!

Response from Mayor Coles:

Sorry about that. There was a miscommunication between the BOE & with our Recreation staff. The park will remain open until dusk, when the police department will lock it up.

Enjoy.

  1. No wonder our neighboring towns don’t want us in their parks, our own BOE won’t allow us to use their pros which we pay for.Lakewood lack of decent parks causes many residents to flood the parks of our neighboring towns. This causes “justifiable” animosity. There is a huge need for more decent parks. The township has allowed for unabated building with out a thought about providing the necessary infrastructure. For now can’t we at least maintain the parks we have to a decent standard?

  2. If you’re going to travel to a park, you don’t have to go to another town. Besides many playgrounds, (maybe we could use more of those) we have 2 extremely beautiful parks right here in Lakewood. We have Pine Park and Ocean County Park on both ends of Lakewood. It’s nice to go to other parks in other towns, just for variety, but you don’t have to go out of Lakewood if you don’t want to.

  3. Since the children population is so large in Lakewood why are there not more small parks in the new communities that are being built. The developer should incorporate a decent playground/park setting for each new community. That would alleviate some of the issues other town residents have with the huge influx of visitors from other towns.

  4. we need many more developments! forget parks, just keep building houses one on top of the other! and keep importing large groups from Williamsburg!
