Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus and Bikur Cholim of Lakewood are appealing to local residents to help save lives by donating blood.
A summer blood drive with extended hours is scheduled for this Thursday, July 25, at Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in the Schulman Conference Center from 11:30 am to 8:00 pm.
“The need has never been greater,” said Rabbi Yehudah Kaszirer, Director, Bikur Cholim of Lakewood. “We are hoping to break last year’s record of more than 125 blood donations at our July Blood Drive.”
“During the summer we typically see a drop in the number of people donating blood but this year the trend started immediately following the New Year and our hospitals are experiencing unprecedented shortages of both blood and platelets,” explains Christopher Ramirez, RWJBarnabas Regional Director, Laboratory Services.
Now, the need is even greater.
“Even though the heatwave is expected to be over by midweek, the blood shortage is not,” said an event coordinator. “The horrific weather across the state has forced the cancellation of countless blood drives. We now have less than a 3 day supply.”
Special thanks to the leadership at Bikur Cholim and the Lakewood community for their support and efforts to help stabilize the local blood supply. Blood donations immediately following this blood drive will sustain or save hundreds of lives.
Donors that have questions about their medical eligibility should call 732-235-8100, ext. 248. Appointments are encouraged and available online at www.rwjuhdonorclub.org. or by calling 732-235-8100 ext. 221. All donors should eat prior to their donation and a photo ID is required.
