Your neighbor is struggling. Who takes Achrayus?

[COMMUNICATED] For nearly 800 Lakewood area families and counting, the answer is simple: Ahavas Tzedakah.

As the Lakewood population has continued to grow exponentially, bli ayin hora, so has its population of those who need help covering basic life expenses. These include men, women and children in just about every neighborhood and every age group. Some parents have lost their jobs. Others are coping with a family crisis. Some are single parents. Others can make ends meet all year but have no way to cope with the added expenses ahead of Succos and Pesach.

They may live on your block. Their child may be in your child’s class. They may even be your sibling. But they would never muster to ask you for help directly.

Ahavas Tzedakah takes achrayus for them.

Ahavas Tzedakah takes achrayus that there’s food in the pantry. Ahavas Tzedakah takes achrayus that the children have dignified clothes. Ahavas Tzedakah takes achrayus that there are weekly groceries. Ahavas Tzedakah takes achrayus that the family is all smiles both on Yom Tov and during the frenzied weeks beforehand.

Achrayus transcends any dollar amount, but Ahavas Tzedakah’s spreadsheet is jaw dropping. What began as Dr. and Mrs. Shanik’s small home operation now distributes over $2 million a year to local families in the form of a generic credit card.

Ahavas Tzedakah’s budget is only growing. Over 135 desperate families are on the waiting list for assistance – some for weekly, some for the Yomim Tovim – that the organization’s current stretched budget simply cannot shoulder.

Who will take achrayus for this all?

Ahavas Tzedakah’s achrayus depends on the achrayus that each and every resident of Lakewood and surrounding communities shows for our brothers and sisters; friends and neighbors.

When Lakewood unites to show our feelings of achrayus, please be there!

Ahavas Tzedakah will hold its 9th annual evening on Tuesday, July 23rd, at Ateres Chana Hall. Our Roshei Yeshiva, Rabbanim and Askanim look forward to a united community uniting to take achrayus for the less fortunate in our midst.
