If you’re a Verizon mobile customer and have been experiencing severe service issues for the past few days in Lakewood, you are not alone.
Over the past few days, numerous Lakewood resident have been reporting a massive increase in Verizon cellphone service disruptions.
Several residents have told TLS that there are times their phones become completely unusable, and that they’re unable to send or receive any calls or texts. They say their mobile data was also affected and were unable to upload or download any data over the network.
Are you having unusually-bad service issues with Verizon the last few days?
Many users tell us they are.

In one disturbing instance, a resident told TLS that it was nearly impossible to make a call to Hatzolah as an emergency medical situation was unfolding.
Hatzolah confirmed the story to TLS, adding that the audio quality was so bad the caller had to redial Hatzolah’s number a staggering eight times before they could get enough information to dispatch emergency responders.
Verizon has said in the past that they are aware of the issues, saying the problems stem from a large number of 3G users in Lakewood overloading the network infrastructure which has also caused 4G users to be affected.
After Mayor Ray Coles sent a letter to Verizon regarding numerous complaints with the service, company representatives said upgrades were planned to accommodate the 3G users and provide better service to all customers.
As has been clearly seen over the past few days, those upgrades are still badly needed.
Curiously, many Verizon users say that only in the past few days did their service issues become so severe. Why that is remains unclear.
Hey @VZWSupport @VerizonNews @verizon @VerizonSupport a local user sent this in to us. Quite ridiculous. Your customers are getting extremely frustrated.

I have a smart phone 5 or 4g with Verizon and it has been horrible the last few days can’t talk to anyone and I heard from allot of people that they have been having problems with verizon the last few days as well.I called verizon and they claim people are not calling in to complain,we need people to call in. Verizon in general used to have great connection but the last year my experience in general was not so positive.
I have Verizon 4G and have not had this issue that everyone i complaining about. I have been very happy with the service. Could it be issues on peering between providers?
I too have had severe issues with Verizon. Had at least 5 dropped calls, couldn’t hear other people on phone, and data suddenly stopped working numerous times. Super frustrating.
I have a 4G Galaxy S8. Has been experiencing terrible service the last couple of days
Call up and say “please reimburse me, I did not in any way get my moneys worth” and if they say we dont see any problems in your area, tell them to google “verizon lakewood nj”. I complained twice and they reimbursed me both times, and will keep doing so until i have normal service
My service has been so horrible that on average I need to call back 3 times to get through a short conversation. Everyone please call. They will only listen if you are complaining that you do not have service when you are home. Many representatives have told me that the Verizon only guarantees service to your home. If you are having issues at home they will send you for free a router to create a signal near your home
I have a 4g flip phone and I was about to order a new phone because the last few days were so bad, I thought the problem was my phone. My phone was almost unusable
4g user. service has been awful
I have at&t and I also have alot of problems around lkwd so to all the Verizon customers dont feel special….
Real bad service all over lakewood
If your phone still has 3g ability go into “network settings” and disable “Enhanced LTE Services” this will force calls & texts (but not data) to use the 3g system which is working significantly better these days.
Please note LTE Exalt and Kyocera flip phones do not have this option as they only support Verizon’s 4g system.
maybe this is a sign we should follow Daas Torah in the ir hatorah and do away with smartphones and possibly even flip phones as they are all distracting us from what is important, I for one only have a landline and it suits me fine just like we lived for decades. In the holy shtetl they didn’t have this narishkeit and lived just fine.
i have verizon 4g flip phone, The service got terrible starting from the blackout last week , its getting worse every day, and its much worse on the east side of lakewood. i think one of their towers here in lakewood is down for the last week
They are just getting you warmed up and begging for 5G… As a public service announcement I would stay far away from 5G, do your research before you sign up… its a much more powerful frequency (currently used as a military grade weapon) which can really harm your health. It also requires the installation of towers all over in close proximity. whatever you do, don’t let them put up a 5G tower next to your house..
Can anyone comment about Sprint and T-Mobile for 4G users? How is reception in Lakewood?
I have sprint CDME and have had no issues thus far.
Any ideas which service is good? Paying 180 a month & service is horrible, really want to switch
A verizon rep said that if alot of ppl complain about the situation it’ll get taken care of alot faster
180 for how many lines? Service is terrible. The only other decent company is att I would probably stick away from sprint/T-Mobile. I would love to switch but still paying off device
What about At&t. I am having terrible coverage in Ridge, East 7th Area. Calls dont come through. No service messages and dropped calls. I never see that addressed. I was in the mountains for July and had no issues. Back to Lakewood, back to dropped calls, no reception…
i recommend that everyone in lakewood dispute their bills with verizon from the last couple of months. this service is unacceptable.
I have a 4G smartphone with Verizon. Service has been HORRENDOUS!
I see no technical correlation to 3G causing the 4G to not work.
Verizon hasn’t been working for more than 3 weeks. I’ve been using the option for WiFi assist but that only works while I’m home.
On a side note Verizon is having issues in the catskills too. Places I’ve had great service with in the past are not just slow. I have 1 bar instead of the usual 4 (same device and same house) so weekends are just as pitiful
I’ve taken a Temp prepaid plan on ATT for outbound calls hoping Verizon would sort this out. Otherwise’ I’d switch to ATT. Ironically Verizon might become the “Uncarrier”
I don’t mind paying a higher price for better service.
I personally don’t see a need to 5G when 4G speeds should work for another 4-5 years or so. But that’s for a different topic (or when they build a hideous towers in places)
Just called Verizon they told me that they haven’t received any complaints, and didn’t see any outages. She didn’t have access to Google, but I told her to tell her supervisor to check TLS.
She rest my network settings it definitely did help a lot
yesterday my verizon voice mail was ‘updated’. so far, i have spoken to 6 people from verizon for more than 3 hours and can not retrieve any messages so it’s not only the smart phone that is a problem
My service is horrible for the last three days as well, but I can’t even report it because they can’t hear me, the chat link they sent me won’t work, and I can’t get on their website! What more can I do? I am lucky I was able to open this page on TLS after a few tries!
I also had terrible service all yesterday. I contacted Verizon and they said they DID see reported issues in the area… and that their network team is engaging on this and should be resolved in the next 24-48 hours. I was also told this is due to the upgrade to 5G services that this occurred now.
I live in Manalapan and my Verizon phone works fine.
I was in lakewood on Tuesday and I was unable to use my phone for phone calls or text.
As soon as I left LAKEWOOD to drive back home my phone worked again…
I have page plus and never had a problem with it.
I’ve had Verizon service for, like, 15 yrs. It’s always been very good. The lst few days, however, it has been awful. Either a tower is out somewhere or they’re working on a line & some bandwidth has been compromised. But I agree with @annoyed – we need to call to complain & we need to dispute our bills.
May this be the worst problem of the 9 days & the rest of the summer.
I also have page plus and use a 3G phone. I never have trouble b”h!
I have sprint and have had no issues whatsoever BH!
verizon samsung note 9. – horrible service past week. getting worse. missed calls -doesnt even show up as missed call. reception worst.
paying top dollars for lousy service.
I have a iphone se.
The past week has been absolutely terrible.
Calls and texts were poor.
Apps cant open up or load/reload.
