Menendez, Booker Announce $1.7M to Bolster NJ Community Health Centers, Including in Lakewood

U.S. Senators Bob Menendez, a senior member of the Senate Finance Committee that sets national health policy, and Cory Booker today announced nearly $1.7 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to continue the essential health care services provided at several New Jersey Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs).

“Community Health Centers are a critical piece of the puzzle in ensuring everyone has access to quality, affordable health care in this country. By offering quality health care in our communities, health centers help individuals access vital preventive services and avoid expensive emergency room visits,” said Sen. Menendez. “This funding will help ensure that residents of New Jersey continue to benefit from robust and comprehensive health care, regardless of their socioeconomic status.”

“These federal dollars will support access to quality and comprehensive health care services New Jersey residents,” said Sen. Booker. “Our community health centers provide New Jerseyans with important health education and preventive services, and they also encourage healthy lifestyles to keep families and our communities thriving.”

The following FQHCs received awards:

In New Jersey, 24 community health centers operate 135 sites, providing preventive and primary health care services to nearly 600,000 New Jerseyans.

Sen. Menendez visited Project H.O.P.E. earlier this month to celebrate National Health Center Week.

Earlier this year, Sen. Menendez joined colleagues in introducing legislation to bolster community health centers and expand access to vital health care services for hundreds of thousands of New Jerseyans. In 2018, the senator secured an additional $1.6 billion in CHC funding on top of the $7.8 billion appropriated for FY2018 and 2019.

These centers charge your insurance or make you pay cash for a visit. Why do they need government handouts? Why isn’t my visit free?
