Democrats On Verge Of Impeaching Trump l Shlomo Rudman

The biggest political story in the country has whetted Democrats appetite for impeachment even more than the Mueller investigation and subsequent report. The Washington Post revealed several days ago that part of a whistleblower’s complaint being blocked from Congress by President Trump’s White House included an instance in which Trump asked the Ukrainian president to investigate his potential presidential opponent Joe Biden. The calls for impeachment from many Democrats was immediate.

Now, a follow up story in the Post has brought those calls to a deafening pitch, and many analysts believe House Democrats have reached a tipping point, with impeachment proceedings to follow shortly. The Post wrote in an article Monday night that President Trump personally ordered $391 million in aid to Ukraine to be withheld prior to his call with the Ukrainian president.

President Trump has publicly acknowledged that he discussed Biden with the Ukrainian president, but claims that he did not use the aid as leverage in his pushing the Ukrainian president to investigate Biden. The Post’s new story suggests otherwise. Many believe that if Trump did indeed push Ukraine to investigate Biden, especially if he held back aid to force them to conduct an investigation, is an impeachable offense.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been pushing back against impeachment proceedings for months. She believes that impeaching Trump would only serve as fodder for Republicans in their bid to get Mr. Trump elected to a second term in office. But after the latest revelations, she may have no choice but to move forward with impeachment proceedings.

Many believe the tide has turned in favor of impeaching Trump. Seven House Democrats with military and national security experience who have until now resisted calling for impeachment, wrote an opinion article in the Post calling for impeachment. Reports claim that Pelosi is now privately discussing the possibility of holding impeachment hearings.

Acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire and Inspector General Michael Atkinson will be appearing before the House Intelligence Committee in a public hearing on Thursday. What they tell lawmakers regarding the Ukraine scandal may be the deciding factor in whether Democrats, who control the House, will actually impeach the president. Stay tuned.

  1. Andrew Johnson was impeached when his party abandoned him. Likely since the Tenure of Office Act was a setup and likely was unconstitutional, he was save by one vote in the Senate.

Richard NIxon was going to be impeached when his own party abandoned him..

The impeachment of Clinton did not have the support of his party and the verdict in the Senate was a fiasco.

There is no precedent of an opposing party impeaching a President. On the other hand, there was no precedent of anyone going from TV and business straight to the highest magistracy (Rome Republic began to crumble when Marius ran for consul without filling the lower offices). Wendell Wilkie, straight from the business world, ran but lost in 1940.

  2. Much ado about nothing. The Democrats have been trying to impeach trump since he was elected (insert reason here). How about reporting on the real scandal in all of this. A Ukranian controlled entity transferred $2 million to Joe Bidens sons account. The attorney general of the Ukraine was investigating this, and Joe Biden pressured Ukraine to have the attorney general fired, and threatened to hold back $1 billion in loan gaurentees if he was not fired.

  3. To those who are not aware, in order for a president to be impeached. You need a 2/3rds majority of the Senate to vote for it , never going to happen, The Senate is Republican controlled

  4. The democrat tzadikim just can’t handle the immorality and crookedness of this president. They are so straight, it mamash makes them sick to the stomach. Nebach, I feel so bad for them that they have to deal with this guy being their president.

  5. Did anyone forget the Trump card. For whatever reason, a subject of its own, Trump has always been succesfull of spinning every situation, new or reconstructed, to his benefit and he comes out on top. Let’s watch how this unfolds and how more bruised on their faces the Democrats will emerge as a result. Anytime this happened for the last 3 years plus, this was the result. We will enjoy our role as spectators.
