FIRST REPORT: Lakewood Scraps Discussions To Replace Municipal Building

Lakewood Township is abandoning a plan that was being discussed to build a new municipal building, with officials telling TLS that the costs associated with a move made it financially unfeasible.

Talks had been held in which it was proposed that a new municipal building be built in the area of Cedarbridge and New Hampshire to accommodate the ever-growing town and provide better service to its residents. The current municipal building is too small to allow the proper providing of government services. Security in the building is also a primary concern, given the number of individuals who pass through it each day.

But instead of moving, Lakewood will for now restructure the way the building runs, moving departments around and streamlining the overall way the heartbeat of the local government runs.

All departments relating to services for residents will likely be moved to the main floor, making it easier for residents to access multiple departments. It would also make providing security to those in the building far simpler.
