Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles responds to your ‘Ask The Mayor’ questions: 2 intersections

The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].

Question: Dear Mayor Coles,

I am writing regarding two intersections I pass daily which need some adjustments.

1)Clover and route 88. Desperately need turning lanes in both directions of clover turning onto the 88. They are super busy and turning cars hold up the already congested intersection

2) Dewey and East 4th street. When turning Right from Dewey onto E4th due to the curve in the road, you are required to pull well into the roadway to see if it is clear to turn. It is dangerous and difficult to make that turn. Please look into making adjustments to that corner. Just today, I watched a bus full of children try to maneuver that turn. It took quite a few steps including backing up and readjusting. Clearly it needs some adjustments.

Thanks for all your hard work on behalf of our ever evolving town, and for listening to our concerns. Kudos!

Sara

Response from Mayor Coles: Good morning,

We are aware of the issue at 88 & Clover and have been pushing the county and state to address it.

Regarding Dewey & East 4th, Traffic and Safety feels the only way to really address the situation would be to make Dewey Ave one way. This would allow for parking on both sides of the street while losing a few spots to make turning easier. Before we would consider moving ahead with this, we need feedback from the neighborhood. Please check with your neighbors about what they think of this idea. I would be happy to attend a neighborhood meeting to discuss it further.

Thanks

  1. When people were building houses on Rt88 and Clover the town could have made them pull the curb back. They did not, now they are washing there hands and saying it is the state and county fault.

  2. are you kidding me? clover and rt 88?? they are just finishing up constructing on the property’s there and their side walks, it could of been so easy to widen the streets there just a few feet a year ago to make turning lanes. Those in charge seem to be very much un informed to whats going on that corner and many corners around town. Im sure there are many intelligent yungerliet that would be happy to volunteer to point out very easy tweaks in the road that would alleviate lots of traffic. The tzibur needs to speak up!
