Opinion: Democrats Aren’t Getting It l Meir Bergman

CNN recently held a town hall in which ten Democratic candidates for president articulated their plans for fighting climate change if they were to become president. The event, which took seven hours in total, brought forth a variety of invaluable details – for Republicans.

One strategist associated with the Trump campaign commented on social media that he couldn’t believe the goldmine that the forum provided for Republicans. He said to expect many soundbites from Wednesday evening to be featured in Republican ads attacking the candidates.

What made Republicans so giddy is the fact that no candidate had a plan that wouldn’t severely affect American companies. One after the other, they stood on the stage and told the moderators and America how they would spend literally trillions of dollars to fight something that the United States cannot meaningfully confront without the participation of major polluters such as China and India. So Republicans will take these soundbites and use them to try sinking the eventual Democratic nominee’s chance of being elected in 2020.

But besides for making Republicans happy, Democrats are taking the wrong approach to fighting climate change. While it is indisputable that global warming is happening – every bit of scientific evidence shows that conclusively – it’s very unclear what the best way to fight it is. Everyone has their own version of how to combat it, and how much of America’s resources should go to the cause. What is, however, quite obvious is that American businesses are getting hurt from current environmental policies and will be hurt further by a Democrat in the White House signing executive actions on climate change issues.

What Democrats have not seemed to realize yet, and Republicans are hoping they never do realize, is that the way to combat rising global temperatures is not by increasing taxes or forcing crushing global agreements on American businesses. Instead, more resources should be spent on advancing new energy sources. As an example, although solar power is widely used, over 90 percent of the potential energy from the sun is not harvested by solar panels. If that would be improved, society would be a lot closer to getting itself to becoming carbon neutral. Nuclear energy provides another example. Creating energy via nuclear fusion causes zero carbon emissions. Yet Democrats have been fighting nuclear power for decades, concerned that a meltdown might occur, imperiling millions. Nuclear power has been proven safe over and over. An innovative way of reducing carbon in the atmosphere is by capturing it via highly specialized equipment. Research money should be poured into that technology.

The problem Democrats have is that they have a mindset which vilifies anyone making money. We see this in their constant wish to tax to death anyone making more than the average worker, and we see it with how they want to load the weight of rising temperatures on to American businesses.

What they aren’t getting is that blaming people who are doing nothing more than trying to make money to live comfortably will keep them out of office. And Republicans smile.

  1. There is no evidence that so called global warming is not a natural planetary cycle and every single prediction based on it has been an epic fail, not one single prediction about the catastrophic effects of global warming or as it is now called climate change has come true, there is no rising global temperatures most of the so called warming is the fact that temperature reading are taken near non naturally hot places and they lower historic temperatures and raise modern readings to make believe there is a warming where there isn’t.
