UPDATED: Lakewood’s Spruce Street School placed on lockdown (PHOTOS)

Lakewood’s Spruce Street Elementary School was placed on lockdown today as authorities investigate a possible weapon in school, law enforcement sources confirmed to TLS.

Shortly before 10:00 AM, police were called to the school after a bus driver reportedly overheard a student tell another student on the bus that he had a gun.

Police say the bag was checked by the bus driver and found to be empty, but police – assisted by K9 – continued their investigation as a precautionary measure, to ensure the bag wasn’t passed on to another student.

The Oak Street was also briefly shut down, but the lockdown was lifted a short time later.

(Parents were notified prior to this information being made public.)

UPDATE 12:20 PM: The all-clear was given and lockdown lifted, police said
