Dr. Roberts responds to feedback on the Chol Hamo’ed carnival (VIDEO)

Submitted by Dr. Roberts: Thank you for all of your encouraging comments. We work very hard for each carnival for about five months. We start preparing for the next Chol Homoed about two weeks after the previous Chol Homoed.

B’H’ this was the most successful carnival that we ever did. There were about 11,000 children and 10,000 received pekelach and the toy cars.

The shows were fantastic. We had some concerns that the tents were rated for 50 mph wind and gusts were predicted up to 43 mph. However, Ocean Tent company reinforced the tents on the morning of the carnival, the Fire Chief inspected them and gave us safety approval, and everything went very well.

The frum Yidden are so cooperative, controlled, and nice that it helped to make this event a success. I’m grateful to everyone who helped. And I want to give a special thanks to Mayor Coles and Meir Lichtenstein who facilitated our working with the great staff of Blue Claws stadium to create a fun, safe, and sweet (literally!!!) Chol Homoed experience for 11,000 frum children in a dignified and sneas environment. Also, many thanks to the LPD, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, Chaverim, ambulance squad, and Shaya Liefer’s camp team.

  1. Hi

First of all, thanks so much for such a beautiful event. A few suggestions for the next carnival.

Maybe put up lines whether taped to the floor or like banks have ropes to show defined lines. There were people that were floating back and forth from one line to the next before they realized that they were not on any line and went to the back of a line.

Also, while the game show seemed like alot of fun, I’m not sure its really good for 6 year olds and down. Maybe we can bring an animal show back. That seemed like a big hit.

Again. Thanks so much for everything!

  2. To Are You,

In the previous carnival, due to the wind we had to use plastic dome covers on the cotton candy machines to keep the cotton candy from flying out of the machines. This greatly slows the output from these machines. For this carnival, we rented a tent to prevent this in case there would be wind. However, yesterday the winds were so extreme and abnormal that we had to remove the walls from all tents so that they did not act as sails catching the wind and threatening the stability of the tents. The result was again having to use the domes, slower output, and the area looking like it was snowing from cotton candy flying around. Such wind is rare here and likely we won’t have this issue in future carnivals, Hashem Willing.

    • Thank you for the great experience!
I wasn’t going to get cotton candy for my children due to the line, but BH someone else’s cotton candy came flying into my child’s hand and they split it between themselves.

  3. To Mr anonymous,

    Thank you for your suggestion.

There was a great petting zoo at the carnival. However, the State of NJ has outlawed having exotic animals in shows and carnivals if they are not indiginous to this region so we can no longer have such attractions.

    Thanks,
    Kasriel (Rich) Roberts

  4. Dr. Roberts,

I’ve never attended but I have been reading about your events for years.

You’re a true mentsh and an example of how a millionaire can bring joy to others.

    Thanks!

  5. Thank you so much dr Roberts! It was beautiful and very enjoyable!
My kids had a great time!
    The carnival was really amazing!
    Gut moed!

  6. Dr. Roberts,
My kids loved every minute. And went crazy over the nosh and cotton candy and popcorn!! Thank you so so much!
May HKBH give you the strength to do this for many years to come.

  7. Dr Roberts, Thank you again for another oustanding Chol Hamoed carnival. It is clearly evident how much thought and consideration goes into each detail of the carnival (like the boys handing out finger puppets to the children who were sitting nicely at the shows – how thoughtful!)
Our family absolutely LOVED the game show! It was interactive, Jewish themed and educational. We have children under 6 years old also, who may have needed some explanation from us as it was going on, but enjoyed the show just as much!
May Hashem bentch you! Thank you again!

  8. Thank you DR. Roberts. May hashem give you all brochos for your generosity and also give you the strength to be able to continue to to do this tremendous chessed for the Lakewood community.

  9. Thank you so much!
My children had a great time!!!
They look forward to this every Chol Hamoed and talk it about from one Chol Hamoed to the next.
Everything seemed so well thought out this year (from the black chairs for men to the tape in the front on the floors….)
    We really appreciate.
    A gut moed.

  10. Dear Dr. Roberts,
The carnival was great and keeps on getting better. It evolved over the years from attractions such as rides and slides to entertainment shows which eliminates lines which is wonderful. A suggestion perhaps would be a fire juggler like they had in the Bais Hamikdush. Somehow that’s something you always remember

  11. Thanks! The day of your carnival is the most relaxing for me. We know what we’re doing right away. There no kvetching and every one is happy. Best of all we leave our wallet at home!

  12. DEAR DEAR DR. ROBERTS, ALTHOUGH OUR CHILDREN OR GRANDCHILDREN DONT LIVE IN LAKEWOOD BUT I DO READ THE LAKEWOOD SCOOP AND FROM TIME TO TIME WRITE A COMMENT [LIKE NOW] FROM WHAT I READ AND HEAR FROM OUR NEIGHBORS YOU ARE A SPECIAL MAN [LIKE WE SAY IN YIDDISH A MENTSH. ] AND I AM SURE YOU INVEST A LOT OF TIME IN EVERY CARNIVAL.. . YET SOME PEOPLE ALWAYS FIND SOMETHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT. .I AM SURE WHEN YOU GO TO AN AMUSEMENT PARK YOU PAY A LOT OF MONEY AND ALSO SOMETIMES HAVE TO STAND IN LINE A LITTLE. SO PL. STOP COMPLAINING AND THANK HASHEM THAT WE HAVE A WONDERFUL DR, ROBERTS AMONG US. AND TO YOU DR. ROBERTS BESIDE DOING SO MUCH FOR OUR COMMUNITY. YOU ALSO EXIBIT KIDUSH HASHEM . ALL OF LAKEWOOD HAVE A VERY HAPPY YOM TOV AND A VERY GOOD HEALTHY AND HAPPY YOHR, SORRY IF I INSULTED SOMEBODY. BU I WAS TAUGHT A VERY LONG TIME AGO THAT HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY.

  14. Carnival was great. As I previously posted. The only recommendation I have is to have signs up saying cotton candy, popcorn, pekelech etc… also signs tent 1 tent 2. The lines weren’t that long.

  19. I hear this year’s carnival was amazing! Incredible with קע”ה such a huge crowd… I would loved to have been there to see this massive Kiddush H’, but my children have long outgrown carnivals. May H’ give you Bracha Hatzlacha, and Koach to continue your wonderful work. (I am considering the option of borrowing some grandchildren next חול המועד so I can personally witness and enjoy!)
