Reader-submitted: On the second day of Succos, one of the children in my District (26) who is hearing impaired needed to have the batteries replaced in his specialized hearing aid. Unfortunately the gracious non-Jewish person who usually helps out if this is necessary on Shabbos or Yom-Tov was not at home.
As you know, the Lakewood Police Department has stepped up patrols in Lakewood and it was by sheer providence (I don’t believe in coincidences) that a Patrol Car was passing by just a block away. When I told them the story and gave them the address, they immediately headed over and replaced the battery. How many kindnesses do the Lakewood Police perform for the entire community? There are many, and many we don’t ever hear about. As the Ocean County Committee Representative for District 26 I want to personally thank the officers, Michael Mooney (330) and Michelle Banuellos (398) on behalf of the family. They truly saved the day for our neighbors. It was great to see the child back to playing with his friends, thanks to these kind officers.

i just want to let you all know , a friend of mine is hearing impaired and every two day yom tov the former chief of police , Chief Robert Lawson , has been going around for hours and hours on the second day yom tov changing batteries for the hearing impaired and other important medical equipment along with his wife and they still do it to this day!(if im not mistaken i think i heard that it takes sometimes up to 6 hrs to do. maybe even more) He has a list of families all over town and the families call him to arrange the address and time. He even brings candies for all the children. he does it every yom tov without fail.There was one yom tov that he was away and he arranged that all families be taken care of . I just wanted to give a little recognition to him as well. I know first hand that these families are extremely grateful to him for all that he does. the lakewood police dept are the most amazing ppl!
Ron and poster #1 are 100% right. The kindness and “extra mile” our local LEOs do, day in and day out, and expecially on Yom Tov is astounding. LPD Rocks !!
