Code Blue & The Men in Blue: Police Chief Greg Meyer sends hot food, blankets and supplies to Lakewood warming center (PHOTOS)

Temperatures have dipped below the freezing mark in Lakewood, prompting the County to issue a Code Blue – which means the opening of the warming centers in around Lakewood.

In an effort to ensure those utilizing the center have all they need and are comfortable, Lakewood Police Chief Greg Meyer teamed up with some generous local businesses and residents.

Within hours, the Chief had arranged donations of hot food (sponsored by Greenwald Caterers), hot coffee, blankets, and even a microwave for those seeking a warm place for the night.

“No person should be left without a warm place and a warm meal in such weather,” Chief Meyer said, “and thanks to the generosity of the community, they won’t be.”

A group of volunteers, which included several police officers, delivered the food and items to the warming center, located at 20 4th Street. It will be open until 8:00 AM.
