Deputy Mayor Menashe Miller draws large crowd at LCSC Business Link Event

The Lakewood Community Development Corp. on Tuesday evening hosted its latest Business Link Networking event.

Presenting on the topic of “Doing business with local and state Government” was Deputy Mayor Menashe Miller, Township Committee liaison to the Procurement Department of the Lakewood Township.

In his 15 years serving as liaison to the Procurement Dept., Menashe has gained valuable practical insight on the processes and procedures of transacting with state and local Government. By sharing some of his experiences with attendees, Menashe was able to clarify some of the myths and misconceptions people have about doing business with Government.

Rabbi MZ Weisberg opened the evening by highlighting his longstanding relationship with Deputy Miller working on many initiatives helping both the community and individuals alike. He went on to mention some of the programs the LDC and the LCSC provide jointly and independently including the UEZ administration, UEZ Microloan program, and other economic development.

Deputy Mayor Menashe Miller began his presentation by stressing the importance of networking within our community and the importance of the work being done by the LDC and the LCSC. He introduced some of his colleagues in the Township involved in the procurement and economic development who were present last night to help answer any questions specific to their area of expertise. Yehuda Abraham, Certified Purchasing Agent, Steven Reinman, Executive Director, Economic Development, Lakewood Industrial Commission, as well as Moshe Bender, President of the Lakewood Board of Education.

Menashe continued his presentation by encouraging local business to consider becoming a Government vendor and how to initiate the process. He described some of the differences between local and state Government, how to get certified to do business with each of those entities, as well as many practical tips to avoid some of the delays and pitfalls often associated with doing business with Government. He also cautioned small businesses to consider the time-delay of reimbursement when doing business with Government.

The presentation was followed by a Q & A session with many participants remaining to ask Menashe and his colleagues their many questions.

There was an overwhelmingly positive response to the presentation. The LCSC and all the participants thank Menashe for generously donating his time and expertise and his overall selfless dedication to the community.

The mission of the LCSC in general and of the Lakewood Business Link initiative in particular is to proactively help business owners network with each other and help them and their employees acquire the skills necessary to succeed. Local business networking has proven to be a strong tool for Lakewood’s small business community to share ideas and foster relations to further grow their businesses.

This program was sponsored and funded by the Lakewood Development Corporation, Lakewood’s economic development agency, as part of the Business Link series of Networking Events. Other programs offered by the LDC/LCSC include UEZ Microloans and Business Assistance consulting. All LCSC programs are offered at no fee.
