GoFundMe Campaign Started To Help With Funeral Expenses Of Men Killed In Tragic Accident

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help pay for the funeral expenses of Braden DeMartin, 22, and Dan Foley, 23, who were tragically killed in a bizarre auto accident in Toms River on Sunday morning, when the Porsche they were in went airborne and slammed into the second floor of a commercial building.

The GoFundMe campaign’s goal is to raise at least $10,000 to help the DeMartin and Foley families with funeral expenses. Donations to the cause can be made here.

  1. My heart goes out to the family. I would hope no one else should have to go through this.
However, I am not sure why this gofundme page is on TheLakewoodScoop.
Unless told otherwise, it would seem to me that these are two people who irresponsibly were driving quite fast and caused the accident that they were in. They are lucky that no one else got hurt.
Yes we live in a “feel good” society but there needs to be some accountability.
In addition, if they were driving a Porsche, can you explain why they need help with the funeral expenses? I would assume the amount they will get for the car will pay for a very grand funeral.
Again, I feel for the family but there is a difference between if an innocent bystander would have gotten hurt and someone who could have easily prevented the accident to begin with. Maybe the gofundme should be for the office that got trashed through two irresponsible adults. Save the gofundme page for when there is a real cause, waste it on something like this and the real causes will lose out.

    • This article belongs on TheLakewoodScoop. What does NOT belong is your heartless comments.

Let me remind you that these two men are DEAD. Which means this money is not benefiting them. It is going to help two grieving families who were not driving that porche, but instead of mourning the loss of loved ones. In case you did not know, grief occurs with all people, regardless of religion. We have no idea what the financial situation is for these families. Did you complain about the fundraise for the family who lost a $1million dollar house a few months back with no insurance? Shame on you.

  2. Wow I am appalled at these comments. You have no regard for the families left behind. You assume because a young man has a Porsche they have tons of money. Their sons are dead and they need help that’s what you should care about. Wow just wow and you all wonder why we all don’t get along

    • Ray,
Characterizing everyone as ‘we’ is judgmental in itself. Do you know the faith of everyone who posted those comments? Either way we do not all feel the same way. And it was posted here for a reason, because most do feel compassion for them.

  3. The Porsche was a 2010 boxter. Similar vehicles run for about $15,000 used. As the kids were in their low 20s and recent college grads, it’s doubtful that they had any sort of account for funeral expenses. Furthermore, going fast on empty roads is something nearly every young adult does. Risky? Yes, however it’s well known science that the prefrontal cortex (decision making area of the brain) only develops fully late into the 20s. I’m not saying they aren’t responsible for their own deaths, but that’s not what this gofundme is about anyway. It’s about parents trying to pay for the unthinkable—burying their kids. I don’t see why such callous comments are necessary. Who cares that they were driving a Porsche? Most people can afford a used Porsche. who cares that they were driving recklessly? This campaign isn’t for them, it’s for their families!

  4. Trust me, just because someone drives a nice car it does not mean they have money. If you don’t want to help out no is forcing you to but lets stop judging grieving families over here.

  5. I gladly donated – they may not be of my faith, but they’re from our community and this tragedy shook me up terribly. I feel awful for the families and hope they find solace very soon.

  6. This is a heartbreaking story. Grieving for the families and praying they have strength. The two young men sound like wonderful people and its tragic that their lives were cut off way too soon.

  7. well said!!
I wish I could donate, but I don’t have the financial means to do so right now.
The most I can do is pray for their families. We are all one community, no matter race or religion. A child is a child, and no-one should have to be preparing their child’s funeral.

  8. Thank you for the clarification. I guess the original article which provided the details was somewhat misleading. A Porsche going airborne due to its excessive speed, would lead anybody to think this was some illegal drag race in a super car.
