Jackson Council Member, USDA head, reveals his true colors [AUDIO] | G. Sonnenfeld

At the latest Jackson Township Council meeting held this past Tuesday evening, a resolution proposing Township-wide eruv was introduced and eventually tabled due to opposition from residents and a lack of support from Orthodox Jews.

During the public comments portion of the meeting, multiple residents spoke out against the eruv in often-derogatory terms, prompting Jackson Township attorney Jean Cipriani to state that the comments being made did not reflect the position of Jackson’s governing body.

However, as one resident, Eleanor Hannum, spoke, one Jackson Councilman openly agreed with her vitriol.

Hannum claimed that permitting an eruv in Jackson would “open up specific sections” to blockbusting. (The Department of Justice has already looked into allegations of blockbusting in Jackson and determined that it was not occurring.) Calogero responded, telling her that he would never allow a private eruv in Jackson, and the intent of the Township-wide eruv proposal was to avoid blockbusting in specific areas.

The comments made by Mr. Calogero, a Trump-appointed NJ USDA head, are highly inappropriate and contradict Ms. Cipriani’s stated claim that the views being expressed at the meeting did not reflect the governing body. By publicly agreeing with Eleanor Hannum, Calogero showed that the comments being made were indeed reflective of his position. Furthermore, it suggests that the tabled eruv proposal was only to avoid blockbusting. This is paramount to accusing the Jews in town of blockbusting, even when the DOJ already determined that there are no valid blockbusting concerns in Jackson.

    • K dude, lets break this down for you. he said that he wouldnt consider an eruv in response to a blockbusting charge, yet there has already been an investigation on that and has been determined that that isnt going on, so the charge of blockbusting is just hateful slander.

  1. the suggestion of 1 eiruv an entire area the size of Jackson with its make up of forests and rivers and open areas shows the ignorance of Jackson Township to even propose such an ordinance. If the Twp would have sat down with any orthodox reputable rabbi that specializes in Eiruv Halachic Laws they would have realized the mockery they have further made of themselves. Since when does Jackson Twp Committee members been educated and ordained in the laws of the Jewish Sabbath.

Maybe we should propose only one large size Christmas Tree in the Entire Jackson to be illuminated.
And only one day for allowance of baptism rituals to take place.
it would be ludicrous. You get the idea.

A Eiruv is mainly established in specific areas when its required by its resident. That being said, its something added after people have moved into an area. Thus the claim of blockbusting is NOT applicable. Its only after the fact.

The comments “You don’t have to see what residents have to walk out to, its awful” and in which the Committeeman Agrees is referring to Eiruvs and the people using them. that’s my opinion. The open arrogance, is hatred of other religions and people with different moral values and dress. The committee should resign all his positions of Government as he is to represent all races. Especially being part of the USDA which has to do also with Hallal and kosher foods, who can trust a person who is ignorant and arrogant.

The excuse of Blockbusting is ridiculous. Its all hype of the “indians are coming” ” the blacks are coming” and now its ” the jews are coming” Fact is Jackson is a very white township and does not welcome multiracial families or people that are not “their type” race.. their defense is to question jewish educations significance to public society for reasons to not allow a jewish school to open. They protest online opening of Jewish owned business in exsisting strip malls. They will protest and claim block busting for anything that is Jewish or Kosher.

  2. I’m trying to understand the need. From what I see an eruv is a ‘private domain’ encompassing possibly several neighborhood blocks for the purpose of carrying items not typically allowed during Shabbat. Is this correct? If so, what is the requested ‘area’ that would need to become a ‘private domain’ for specific use of carrying objects? Maybe this is what needs to be understood.
In terms of ‘blockbusting’ stated by IGNORACEAND ARROGANCE, I’m more than positive you have not been privy to any of the ‘encounters’ your gentile counterparts have been subjected to in regards to the sale of their homes within the past 3 years plus. And to state that ‘Jackson is a very white township and does not welcome multiracials families or people that are not ‘their type’ race’ is a pretty hefty judgement and a bad one at that. I wish you really could see the diversity that is currently there in Jackson.
There seems to be much misguided information and opinions on BOTH sides of the fence with no real measures in place to assist in EITHER SIDE with understand and compassion.

  3. Hannum is a vicious anti-Semite. She has been caught on tape scheming with the fuehrer of RUOC about planting snakes on a property in order to then derail a development project. For Calogero to agree and engage with her is disgusting. The time has come to put pressure on all these other agencies and boards which some of these officials hold seats on. Bridge committees, University of Pennsylvania, NJ PBA, and the USDA. There is a price to pay for the mistreatment of minorities and these politicians who hate anyone that doesn’t look like them ought to pay that price. The time has come

  4. Block busting? Are you kidding? We Jews are so stupid that we make the previous residents of any neighborhood we move into, wealthy by driving up the selling prices of the houses. We were actually the greatest victims of block busting in the 60s and 70s when we sold our houses and shuls in the inner cities for next to nothing when the neighborhoods were changing.

  5. The issue that most of us non racist have is this : it appears that your sec of the Jewish population don’t want to belong to the communities you move to. Instead of joining the community it seems you wish to establish a community within one. Which means you don’t care about the schools, small business or people unless they are a part of your group. How would most of you feel if I dropped off bus loads of my African American family in Lakewood. Telling them to demand churches, housing and more black businesses ? Which would all be legal right? Despite the legal issues I’m sure it would be very concerning for your community. In Ocean County there are a lot of families that pride themselves in their home/ community. So when you see a potential glitch in the system you worry. I think there needs to be more discussions.. bull dozing your way into a door is not always the only option.
