Many local sellers affected in massive Amazon sweep; Petition launched

A sweep within Amazon has left many accounts suspended, in what sellers are calling “insane” – and many local Amazon sellers were affected in the sweep.

A petition launched reads:

“Third party Sellers are 58% of sales on Amazon.com. Amazon has a rights owner complaint system that accepts complaints when any brand or person asserts that an item is counterfeit. There is little or no vetting of the actual complaint but this is not what the petition is about. When a brand asserts that an item is “counterfeit”, Amazon will take down the ASIN regardless of fact which is fine. We are ok being taken advantage like that and do not critique Amazon for this.

“Here is the issue. If a seller receives one or two more of these “complaints”, Amazon will eventually destroy the entire business regardless of the size or how long they have been on Amazon. We think this is an overreach and ridiculous. Not only do we think that, ALL Amazon account managers have told us they agree with us. Yes, It’s OK to suspend the ASIN (item) even if the complaint is bogus, but why suspend and destroy the entire business? How does this affect the other 50,000 items. Currently dozens of the TOP 500 accounts on Amazon are suspended for this insane reason.”

Amazon sellers are hoping to bring about change.

  1. The only way Amazon will listen is if you involve legislators in the effort. Reach out to your congressmen and Senators for help. Amazon is already under scrutiny from lawmakers for anti-trust and monopolistic business practices. Lawmakers reaching out to them will get their attention.

  2. well if yo understand that they will remove an item for a baseless accusation, then why is it hard to understand that they would remove the seller entirely based on that same accusation?
This is a great potential opportunity for an amazon competitor….

  3. As an amazon customer I have been victimized several times by sellers selling counterfeit items. I feel bad for the sellers but this will make a seller think twice before they try that again. It’s not easy to protect the consumer when there are millions of sellers operating in the shadows.

  4. If you are an honest Seller then you have nothing to worry about, to the scam Sellers beware and good riddance.
Maybe Amazon should give the names of the removed Sellers to Law enforcement for investigation. Someone should protect the consumers.

    • That is not true. An unscrupulous competitor can file a baseless accusation, and Amazon will shut down your business without any due process. Sounds ridiculous, but that is the point of the article.

  5. The current litigious enviroment forces Amazon to act to severely. Courts have help websites responsible for millions for acts of people on their site. Amazon is just trying to be defensive against being sued for billions by the name brands.
