The rain gardens that were installed along North Lake Drive and South Lake Drive this past year received the New Jersey Society of Municipal Engineers Project of the Year Award at the New Jersey League Of Municipalities Convention this afternoon in Atlantic City.
The rain gardens were designed by Maser Consulting for Brick MUA under a NJDEP Grant.
The six rain gardens filter previously untreated stormwater runoff, preventing pollutants from reaching the lake and improving water quality in the watershed.
Do they get a reward for the traffic light on first and Clifton too?
Great job Yossi!
Those things are ugly – they may be necessary but not sure why they’re worthy of an award
Award??! The Lakewood lake has seen only degradation in the last 10 years! Its overgrown, unkempt and has become an eyesore! There should be no rewards until that lake is as nice as it was when we grew up.
Know what else would help? Not paving over and building on every last bit of undeveloped land!
It’s hard for rainwater to be absorbed into the ground, and replenish aquifers used for drinking water supplies, if every piece of land is developed.
Will there be an award for the tree commissions for planting trees (that should have been spread around town) at Lake Carasaljo and are now mostly dead? How about an award to the parks commission for the oldest (rusty) playgrounds in the state?
